• Accelerated Reader Prize Winners

  The mantra in Sacred Heart P.S. with our Accelerated Reader programme is ‘quality over quantity.’ The focus is on the quality of reading, implementing comprehension/inference strategies and attaining high scores in quizzes.

  The people at AR have sent the school prizes to distribute for those pupils who are attaining high percentages in quiz accuracy. So a big well done goes to Orlaith (P2), Sophie (P3), Noomi (P5 - absent from photo), Ellie (P6) and Kasey (P7) who were all delighted to receive a few goodies today.

  

• Gaeligeoir na Míosa

  The school’s Gaeligeoir na Míosa for February is P4 pupil Kasia. Kasia has been very active in using Irish during everyday operations in school. She has also been using digital translating tools to good effect. So much so that she named one of our new chicks in P1 after using her Amazon Echo to translate!

• Gala Ball Details

  Tomorrow sees our school community come together to celebrate our 50th Anniversary Gala Ball in the Burrendale hotel, Newcastle.

  The welcome reception kickstarts proceedings in the function room and we would ask all patrons to arrive for 7pm.

  Please ensure that you bring your ticket with you as this will be your entry into the prize draw that includes a framed signed Down jersey by the 2024 senior team, a night in the 5 star Lough Erne Resort, a tutoring package from Nurturing Minds and £100 cash.

  It is shaping up to be a wonderful occasion!

• New Chicks in P1

  The wonder of the life cycle came alive in P1 over this past day as the boys and girls welcomed seven new additions into their classroom. As part of their World Around Us topic, ‘The Farm,’ a new incubator had been purchased so that the class could use it to usher in the new arrivals. It was all very exciting!

  

• Cumann na mBunscol Quiz

  Well done to our team today consisting of Christopher P7, Charlie P6, Charlie P7 and Oisin P6 who came a very commendable 6th place out of 22 schools at the Cumann na mBunscol quiz at Kilcoo GAC.

• Principal’s Award

  Daniel P7

  Daniel is a hard working pupil who is very keen to learn. He is consistently progressing in all subject areas, making particular progress within Numeracy. He displays a good understanding of mental maths strategies and problem solving.

  Daniel has shown dedication and effort in improving his presentation and handwriting skills. His written work has become noticeably neater, reflecting his hard work and attention to detail. 

  Daniel’s kind and empathetic nature shines through in his interactions with his peers. He always demonstrates consideration towards others, asking how they are and offering help when needed. He has impeccable manners, greeting all staff in the mornings and never forgets to say please or thank you.

• Quiz Team Shield Presentation

  Mrs Cora Kidd from the Dromara and Drumgooland Credit Union visited Sacred Heart P.S. today to present our successful quiz team with their shield after their regional victory a few weeks back.

  The team now progress to the Ulster final which takes place in the Malone Lodge hotel in Belfast on Sunday 3rd March.

• Big Battery Hunt

  This year we are taking part in 'The Big Battery Hunt' and we need your help!

   

  Over 20,000 tonnes of batteries end up in landfill sites each year, where they can take over one hundred years to decompose. The chemicals that can leak from these batteries can cause soil and water pollution, as well as harm animals that live in those habitats. It is vital that we dispose of these correctly.

   

  Not only will recycling these batteries have a positive impact on our environment, but it will also give us a chance to join the leaderboard and earn some amazing prizes for our school! We would ask that you bring any old batteries into school as we have a specially constructed container that will be used to collect them. This initiative will run to mid June.
