This week, the children worked on an arts project inspired by their exploration of constellations. They coloured the backgrounds and stars of familiar constellations and carefully poked holes in them, creating a design that projects the constellation pattern when a torch is shined through. The boys and girls had a great time learning about constellations such as Orion, Ursa Major, Ursa Minor and Scorpius and some were excited to report that they had spotted some of these in the clear night skies we’ve been having this week!
Today the boys and girls of Primary 5/6 learned about training to become an astronaut. We discussed why it was important to have a good level of fitness and why astronauts need to maintain their fitness even when on space missions. We even tried some of the common exercises they would do in space! Next, we discussed a possible emergency scenario that could happen while in space and used our problem solving skills to come up with a solution. We now have an understanding of the different challenges an astronaut could face, and why they need such intensive training.
