Numeracy
For numeracy ABL, the children worked in groups to plan an Easter treat shopping spree while sticking to a set budget. They used the Tesco website to find and select different Easter treats, making sure that the total cost of their basket did not exceed their budget. They had to compare prices and find the best deals, add up decimal amounts correctly, make decisions about what to buy within their budget and adjust choices if they went over budget. This allowed them to apply their maths skills to real life scenarios.
In ABL numeracy today, the boys and girls looked further at finding the area of objects. Today, they used cm squared paper and drew around common classroom objects such as pencils, books, etc and counted the full and partial squares to estimate the area. Some even went on to using the metre sticks to measure the whiteboard, desks and bookshelves.
For numeracy today, the children were reinforcing their multiplication and division knowledge in a mental maths activity. Each child was given some cards with either a multiplication or division sum, and were tasked with finding a classmate holding the inverse operation. This hands on approach encouraged teamwork, problem solving and mathematical discussion. It was fantastic to see the children so engaged and confident in their learning!
For numeracy problem solve this week, the boys and girls worked together to investigate patterns when multiplying pairs of consecutive numbers. They were able to identify that all answers would be even, and that the answers can only be odd when both multipliers are odd. Which is impossible with consecutive numbers! Well done!
This week for our numeracy problem solve the boys and girls had to work together to solve a series of numeracy problems to reveal clues leading to the identity of a mystery snowman builder. They showed great problem-solving, team-work and subject knowledge. Well done P5/6!
Numeracy Problem Solve
We have been learning all about fractions in Numeracy, and for Activity Based Learning it was a race to the finish as the boys and girls completed an equivalent fraction board game in their groups. As they rolled the dice they moved their counters along, simplifying fractions and finding their equivalents as they went to win the game.
