Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We are extremely grateful to Mr John Tumelty, father of Jessica P1 and Eoin P3, for supplying and fitting two new bins for our junior and senior playgrounds.
The Student Council had raised the issue of a lack of bins a few months ago and so they set about addressing this shortcoming.
Thank you to John from everyone in the school community!
Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte was bathed in glorious sunshine this morning as the school held the second annual Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup and Dundrum GAC Shield Competitions.
The group stages produced some fantastic football with the four schools playing each other once in 15 minute games. St Michael’s P.S. Finnis finished top of the group unbeaten with three wins whilst St Nicholas P.S. Ardglass came second with two successes under their belt. Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum and St Colmcille’s P.S. Downpatrick were third and fourth respectively.
This set up the finals with St Michael’s P.S. overcoming St Nicholas P.S. 5-07 to 1-05 in a closely fought encounter to win the Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup for the second year in succession. The hosts, Sacred Heart P.S. were involved in a great tussle with St Colmcille’s P.S. before coming out on top, 1-07 to 1-01, to take home the Dundrum GAC Shield.
Well done to all the teams and their respective managements who contributed to a wonderful festival of football. Thank you to Chris Ferris for officiating, Gerry McMullan, Jack McMullan, Caragh Ferris, Kaylee Poland and Katie-Louise Poland for umpiring. Gratitude is extended as well to the Carey family members along with Dundrum GAC President Eddie Campbell for their part in the presentations.

This afternoon our P6/P7 class participated in HIP Psychology’s Transitions Workshop.
This workshop helped to give the pupils tools to embrace the changes and challenges that await them in the next move in their school journey.
It was a fun, interactive and very practical workshop where the focus was on helping equip the boys and girls to meet the new scenarios that ‘big school’ will provide.
The overall aim of the ‘HIP Transitions Workshop’ was to have the pupils viewing the move to post-primary through the lens of excitement, not the lens of worry.
Today P6/P7 participated in the new initiative led by Sports Changes Life, in partnership with Phoenix Gas. Led by Michael, this workshop combined both environmental education and sport.
Using only recyclable materials, pupils engaged in a range of physical and team building games, whilst learning about environmental issues.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed this engaging session and came away with some valuable knowledge.

Sacred Heart P.S. hosted a GAA Blitz for P3/P4 boys and girls at Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte this morning. In attendance were ourselves, St Mary’s P.S. Aughlisnafin, St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville and St. Francis P.S. Drumaroad.
There were great displays of skill across all the teams with some highly contested games. This was our first ever P3/P4 blitz and we cannot wait to organise more in the future. We would like to thank all the schools for coming and taking part. Thanks also goes out to all the referees who volunteered their time to help out on the day and to Dundrum GAC for the use of the grounds. Gratitude is extended as well to Mr McCartan for organising the event.
The footballing future is definitely bright across our local areas!
*** Eco-Schools Green Flag Awards ***
This morning, Miss Crozier and P7 pupil Logan attended the Eco-Schools Green Flag awards ceremony in the St Patrick’s Centre, Downpatrick.
The event recognises the amazing dedication and achievement of schools across the North in gaining and renewing their Green Flag award.
However, there were two big announcements that came at the end of occasion. Logan was awarded the ‘Eco-Pupil of the Year 2023’ whilst Miss Crozier was feted with the ‘Eco-Teacher of the Year 2022/23.’
This was a scintillating double for the school and we are immensely proud of Logan and Miss Crozier in regard to their achievements. Sacred Heart P.S. has strong Eco policies and advocacy and this recognition is just reward for all the great work that goes on in this field.

We were delighted to learn this morning that two of our pupils, Ruadhán P4 and Oisin P5, had their submissions reach the final stages of the judging process for the Texaco Children’s Art Competition 2023.
The standard this year was said to have been exceptional and we as a school are very proud of both boys getting commendations.
Well done!
Sports Day 2023 proved to be a great success as the sun shone brightly on the Sacred Heart P.S. boys and girls. An action packed programme of events took place in which everyone enjoyed immensely.
Well done to the whole school on their brilliant participation. Thanks too goes to Mr McCartan and Mr Doyle for their organisation of the day. It was also great to see so many people from our school community in attendance.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
