Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte was bathed in glorious sunshine this morning as the school held the second annual Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup and Dundrum GAC Shield Competitions.
The group stages produced some fantastic football with the four schools playing each other once in 15 minute games. St Michael’s P.S. Finnis finished top of the group unbeaten with three wins whilst St Nicholas P.S. Ardglass came second with two successes under their belt. Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum and St Colmcille’s P.S. Downpatrick were third and fourth respectively.
This set up the finals with St Michael’s P.S. overcoming St Nicholas P.S. 5-07 to 1-05 in a closely fought encounter to win the Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup for the second year in succession. The hosts, Sacred Heart P.S. were involved in a great tussle with St Colmcille’s P.S. before coming out on top, 1-07 to 1-01, to take home the Dundrum GAC Shield.
Well done to all the teams and their respective managements who contributed to a wonderful festival of football. Thank you to Chris Ferris for officiating, Gerry McMullan, Jack McMullan, Caragh Ferris, Kaylee Poland and Katie-Louise Poland for umpiring. Gratitude is extended as well to the Carey family members along with Dundrum GAC President Eddie Campbell for their part in the presentations.
