Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
P1 had a fun-filled Halloween day with their friends from Knockevin. They spent time outdoors, gathering various ingredients to create witches' potions, and later moved inside to make chocolate apples. The children also enjoyed a variety of sensory and art activities. It's wonderful to see them developing and strengthening their friendships.
Sacred Heart P.S. welcomed Carole Harty and Sara Strange from Danske Bank into school today. After initiating financial literacy awareness among our pupils in the last academic year, it was felt important to continue this aspect of real life learning in 2024/2025.
Three workshops took place throughout the day with the following modules delivered:
P2/P3 - ‘Introduction: what is a bank?’
P4/P5 - ‘Services in a bank.’
P6/P7 - ‘The importance of living within a budget.’
Thank you to Carole and Sara from Danske Bank for their delivery of the programme. We believe that our children will have gained some valuable insight into the fiscal world!
Sacred Heart P.S. entered both boys’ and girls’ teams into the FunFit East Down Schools’ GAA Tournament today at St John’s GAC.
The boys opened with a two point loss to eventual Cup winners Our Lady’s and St Patrick’s, Downpatrick, before going on to defeat St Mary’s P.S. Killyleagh, St Michael’s P.S. Finnis and St Macartan’s P.S. Loughinisland. This earned Sacred Heart P.S. second place in their group and passage through to the Cup semi finals.
After a break the team lined up against Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche in the last four clash. A pulsating game saw the Castlewellan side come out victorious, 3-01 to 0-04. A superb effort from the boys!
The girls done mightily well, reaching the Shield final. After a couple of excellent wins in the group stages, they defeated St Brigid’s P.S. Downpatrick by one point in the semi finals. Despite a huge comeback in the 2nd half of the final that saw Sacred Heart P.S. hit three goals, St Francis P.S. Drumaroad emerged deserving winners of the Shield at the full time whistle.
Well done to all the players that represented the school today. Gratitude is reserved to Martin Keenan and all the FunFit staff for their excellent hosting and hospitality.
For Maths Week, the P5/6 class completed multiple different activities. They used number squares to create addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions. The pupils made use of the Numeracy games that were available to them in the classroom, all of which were related to their WALT on the day.
The pupils were challenged with the target board competition that was available on the Maths Week website and finally they completed the Maths Week Activity Booklets that contained a range of relatable tasks.

P4/P5 had a fantastic time celebrating Maths Week Ireland 2024! The children enjoyed outdoor fun with bean bag darts, testing their mental addition skills up to 300. Inside, they sharpened their problem-solving abilities with emoji simultaneous equations and memory games using Maths Week resources. They also competed in 21 and 24 card games, boosting their mental maths and teamwork. A great week of learning through play!

Mr Doyle’s class embraced Recycle Week by designing their own recycling logo posters and learning about the importance of protecting the environment through recycling. The pupils explored simple ways that they can make a difference at home such as:
- Reusing containers and bottles instead of throwing them away.
- Repurposing old clothes and toys by donating or using them creatively.
- Composting food scraps to reduce waste and nourish gardens.
Together, they learned that small actions can have a big impact on the planet!
