Sacred Heart P.S. entered both boys’ and girls’ teams into the FunFit East Down Schools’ GAA Tournament today at St John’s GAC.
The boys opened with a two point loss to eventual Cup winners Our Lady’s and St Patrick’s, Downpatrick, before going on to defeat St Mary’s P.S. Killyleagh, St Michael’s P.S. Finnis and St Macartan’s P.S. Loughinisland. This earned Sacred Heart P.S. second place in their group and passage through to the Cup semi finals.
After a break the team lined up against Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche in the last four clash. A pulsating game saw the Castlewellan side come out victorious, 3-01 to 0-04. A superb effort from the boys!
The girls done mightily well, reaching the Shield final. After a couple of excellent wins in the group stages, they defeated St Brigid’s P.S. Downpatrick by one point in the semi finals. Despite a huge comeback in the 2nd half of the final that saw Sacred Heart P.S. hit three goals, St Francis P.S. Drumaroad emerged deserving winners of the Shield at the full time whistle.
Well done to all the players that represented the school today. Gratitude is reserved to Martin Keenan and all the FunFit staff for their excellent hosting and hospitality.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
