As part of a new collaborative initiative we have created the 'Muck in Monday' concept. These days will take place once a term. They will provide an opportunity for our P4 to P7 children to come together with parents, family and members of our school community in an effort to clean, tidy and maintain our school estate.
Our first get together will take place from 1:30pm to 3pm on Monday 9th October. It promises to be a fun and worthwhile venture as we all take great pride in our surroundings!
The response to our request for old photos and archive material related to the school has been phenomenal! Thank you to all who have sent stuff in so far.
We are just three weeks away from our ‘Trip Down Memory Lane’ event in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the school on its current site.
We are still seeking photos etc. Please leave them into school (they will be returned), email them to mfitzsimons956@c2kni.net, WhatsApp to 07523228422 or simply message them through to our Facebook page.
Thank you
The boys and girls enjoyed Dr Bike Day today as part of Cycle to School Week.
Many thanks to John Ross of Ross Cycles who visited the school to deliver an informative session. John spent time discussing with each class the importance of being aware of bike safety. He went through everything from proper cycling attire to how to maintain your bike.
The children eagerly participated in the Q&A and asked plenty of interesting questions. John was delighted to visit the school again and everyone was glad to get freshened up on bike safety.

Recently Nearby ran a Facebook competition for one lucky winner to win a £50 Smyth’s Toy Store voucher and £150 sponsorship for their school.
We were delighted to learn last week that the winner chosen was our P7 pupil Ronan! His superb entry blew the judges away and ranked the best of the lot.
Today, Ronan received his framed winning competition entry along with his voucher and the sponsorship contribution to the school. Pictured with him is past pupil Bernie Murdock, proprietor of Nearby in Dundrum.
We are delighted to welcome our annual 'Travelling Book Fair' to school from this coming Thursday, 28th September, to Thursday 5th October.
Children will visit the book fair with their class and are welcome to visit with their parents between 2pm - 4pm. The book fair will take place in our school hall. Please note payment will be cash only. Please follow the link to see some of the books that will be available to purchase.

Sacred Heart P.S. have officially been recognised as a Forest School! Miss Crozier, our Eco School co-ordinator, attended the annual NIFSA conference on Friday past at which we were inaugurated into the organisation.
We started our Forest School journey last year, making great use of our local wooded area at Dundrum Castle. We are excited to continue this journey as more classes become involved in the programme and more children are able to reap the benefits of outdoor learning.
Forest School lessons bring learning outdoors as children are able to connect with their local area. It is a child-centred learning process, providing learner inspired, hands-on experiences in the natural environment whilst bringing in important areas of the curriculum.
