Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Mr McCartan’s P3 class created safari brochures to round up their WAU topic of ‘The Jungle.’ With this undertaking, they used the Green Screen to create a safari background and they also talked about their safari and why you should visit it!
The class used iPads to research information and also used alliteration in their titles such as the ‘Spectacular Safari’ so that it would sound catchier and stand out.
The children thoroughly enjoyed coming to the front of the class and explaining why people should choose their offering.
A brilliant total of £627 was raised via another very successful POSH fundraising quiz last night in the Dundrum Inn. Thank you to the grouping for their efforts in putting together a stellar evening, with all funds going towards the support of our school.
Thanks too goes to all those businesses that sponsored prizes for the raffle along with our quiz master Paul Madden for his contribution as well.
A reminder that our POSH quiz night takes place tomorrow evening (Friday) in the Dundrum Inn, 8pm start. £5 entry with musical entertainment afterwards.
There will also be a raffle on the night with some fantastic prizes namely:
- Tickets for an Ireland rugby game.
- Mourne Seafood Bar voucher.
- Dundrum Inn voucher.
- Ramona Burns MUA voucher.
- Buck's Head voucher.
- Scoper's voucher.
We look forward to seeing all our family, friends and members of the wider school community support this event. Please share!
A panel of 24 boys and girls ventured to the Down Leisure Centre this morning to take part in the inaugural schools’ volleyball competition. Spa P.S., St Columban’s P.S. Kilkeel and Ballywalter P.S. were also in attendance.
Sacred Heart P.S. entered six teams with four players in each side. Everyone got to play a host of competitive games with some fantastic skills on display. The quartet of Max, Oisin, Effie and Erin made it the whole way to the Cup Final only to be defeated in a cracking game by a representation from Spa P.S.
A big thank you goes to Mr McCartan and Miss Crozier for introducing volleyball into our school and for their commitment to coaching it over the last few months.
Well done boys and girls for a sterling effort with this new sporting initiative!
It’s all about ‘Under the Sea’ for our P1 class as they headed to Exploris in Portaferry today as a further part of the exploration of their current World Around Us topic.
The trip back and forward on the ferry was full of great excitement for the boys and girls whilst the attractions at Exploris provided superb fun, insight and learning for all.
An amazing afternoon was had today as we held our first ever Colour Run! All the boys and girls from Young at Heart and Sacred Heart P.S. gamely participated in a mile long walk, jog and run in aid of Daisy Lodge (Cancer Fund for Children) and school funds.
A fantastic time was enjoyed by everyone and with a vast array of colours on show it ensured a bright end to the week was had by all! Thank you to Dundrum GAC for the use of their pitch, to organiser Mrs Claire McGuigan, to all those staff and parents who helped out during the event and to Graham Crory of ActiSport for his warm up and musical entertainment.
To coincide with our event, our P4 pupil Ruadhán has been running a mile a day throughout the month of April to raise funds for Daisy Lodge. If you would like to support Ruadhán in his endeavours, please follow the link below. Delilah’s application towards her work is fantastic. She is committed to doing her best every single day. She is a hugely enthusiastic learner who constantly takes on tasks with energy. She shows great character and always exudes kind, respectful and helpful mannerisms when interacting with her peers.
Delilah has a vibrant imagination and excels in creative writing tasks. The progress she is making month after month is remarkable in this regard and I hope she continues to flourish.
Attitude is everything and it is very clear that Delilah possesses a ‘can do’ mantra with her schooling.
Well done Delilah! Keep up all the great work!
As we draw April to a close, our Pupil of the Month winners were in fine form this morning as they were all announced as winners!
Niamh P1, Niamh P2, Aoife P3, Austin P4, Ellie P5, Aoife P6 and Sophia P7 have worked so hard during these past four weeks and they all deserve the upmost praise for their efforts and contribution to school life In that period.
Well done!
Today the pupils of Sacred Heart P.S. took part in the very first World Daily Mile Day and it was a great success! Everyone walked down to the local viewpoint at Murray’s Green, looking out on to Dundrum Bay.
The Daily Mile is a super initiative which focuses on improving children’s mental and physical health through exercise. It also promotes classroom breaks like this today to enhance concentration and attentiveness during lessons. The pupils of the school thoroughly enjoyed the celebration and had great fun amongst their peers.
The ice lollies from Brennan’s were really appreciated too!
