Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Sacred Heart P.S., St Francis’ P.S. Drumaroad and St Mary’s P.S. Aughlisnafin all joined forces yesterday for a blitz at Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte.
There was some fantastic football on show from both the boys and girls of all three schools with the tackling, passing and shooting all being of the highest standard.
Thank you to Mr McCartan for organising the blitz as well as all those who helped out on the morning.
Elaina P1
Congratulations to Elaina, the well deserved recipient of the Principal’s Award this week!
Polite, caring and bright, she stands out as a fantastic member of the P1 class. Her kindness extends to being a great friend who consistently lends a helping hand to all.
Elaina puts 100% effort into all aspects of her school life and in turn, all the staff have been so impressed with her attitude towards learning.
Elaina has enthusiastically embraced the introduction of Irish and she is a great role model for her peers in this aspect. Excelling in Literacy and Numeracy, Elaina’s beautiful handwriting and imaginative storytelling set her apart.
Keep up the excellent work!
The P7 boys and girls had a fantastic time at East Coast Adventure for their residential!
They began their stay with some indoor team games and then tried their hand at archery. After a fantastic dinner, they went for a hike up to the Cloughmore Stone to enjoy some stories with a view. The night was finished with roasting some delicious S’mores at the campsite.
Everyone was up bright and early the next day for breakfast before travelling into Warrenpoint for paddle boarding, pier jumping and banana boating.
A huge thank you to Patsy, Michéal, Dermot and the rest of the staff who always ensure that Sacred Heart P.S. have the best time! Thanks is extended as well to school staff members Miss Crozier, Tom and Annette for accompanying the children on their trip.
The whole school (P1 to P7 inclusive) enjoyed an end of year trip to We Are Vertigo on Monday.
Everyone had a blast of a time taking in the inflatable park with its mechanical sweeper, balance beams, bounce walls, travelator and pugil stick duels. The adventure climbing zone also proved to be a massive hit with the climbing wall, high and low ropes course and three tier Alpine soft play village being particular highlights.
Thank you goes to POSH for supplementing some of the cost of the trip. This was appreciated by all.
A huge thank you goes out to our school community and beyond for all the batteries that have been collected and donated to the school over these last few months. We were astonished that we were able to gain a total of 17,180 batteries. This ensured that we ended up finishing in the Top 40 for participating schools across the North and on the UK mainland in the competition.
Well done to our Eco Council under the auspices of Eco Co-ordinator Miss Crozier for their commitment to the initiative and for all the work that they did to raise awareness and interest.
#BigBatteryHunt2024
Miss Byrne and our classroom assistant Ciara along with P4 pupils Annie and Kasia attended Ulster University, Belfast, today for a special ceremony in recognition of schools that partook in Scoil Spreagtha over the past academic year.
Sacred Heart P.S. received the Bronze Award (Duais Chré-umha) from Ollscoil Uladh as well as our official Scoil Spreagtha status in association with Foras na Gaelige, Gael Linn and Cultúrlann ui Chanáin.
This achievement was the result of a number of initiatives throughout the 2023/2024 academic year within the school that were connected to the promotion and everyday use of the Irish language. We thank Miss Byrne for her co-ordination of this and for the successful rollout in Sacred Heart P.S.
To our children as well for their high levels of enthusiasm for everything as Gaelige. Maith thú!
Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte was a hive of footballing activity this morning as Sacred Heart P.S. hosted the 3rd Annual Jarlath Carey Memorial Tournament.
This year 8 teams participated namely the hosts, St Michael’s P.S. Finnis, St Francis’ P.S. Drumaroad, St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville, St Macartan’s P.S. Loughinisland, St Colmcille’s P.S. Downpatrick, St Mary’s P.S. Aughlisnafin and St Nicholas’ P.S. Ardglass.
Each team played three games in the group stages. St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville topped Group A with 3 wins from 3 games whilst St Mary’s P.S. Aughlisnafin did likewise in Group B. This earned both passage through to the Cup final. Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum won 2 of their outings in Group A as did St Francis’ P.S. Drumaroad in Group B and thus both made it to the Shield final.
The Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup final saw a strong St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville emerge victorious over a plucky St Mary’s P.S. Aughlisnafin offering. Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum retained the Dundrum GAC Shield that they won last year with a positive success over St Francis’ P.S. Drumaroad.
Thank you to all 8 teams for their participation. To our referees and ball girls, we thank you all as well. To Eddie Campbell (Dundrum GAC President) for presenting the Dundrum GAC Shield and to Nuala, Martin and Helen for representing the Carey family, we extend our gratitude.
Another successful tournament all round!
