Sophie P3
Sophie is an intelligent and hard-working girl who absolutely loves school life. She is very caring, polite and well-mannered and always does what is asked of her.
Sophie produces fantastic pieces of work right across the curriculum, day in and day out. She always ensures that her work is neat and presentable. She is a very enthusiastic learner and can retain information excellently. She is a fantastic writer and has produced some excellent stories this year in P3. Throughout Numeracy, Sophie loves problem solving and is amazing at showing more than one strategy to get her answer.
Sophie sets a great example to others and has a caring nature towards her peers. She shows a sincere interest in all learnings throughout the classroom and asks great questions which expresses this interest. Sophie has really enjoyed the introduction of Accelerated Reader and loves getting the time to complete quizzes as an extension activity.
Sophie also loves to keep us all informed about the adventures of Snowy and Doug, her two pet dogs! Sophie has worked tremendously hard throughout P3 and is a very worthy recipient of this award.
Well done!
This afternoon the P7 boys and girls of Sacred Heart P.S. celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a reflective ceremony full of poignancy which was led by Canon Fleck.
Those receiving the Sacrament had instrumental roles during the service through the readings, prayers of the faithful and the singing of the Psalm. Well done goes to the pupils for their fantastic contribution to the event.
Thank you is reserved for their class teacher Miss Crozier for preparing and guiding the children. We also acknowledge the sterling contributions of our classroom assistants, Annette Kelly and Tom Boden.
Gratitude is also directed to our school choir under the instruction of Mr Doyle along with Miss Kelly for the wonderful music and song along with Paul Madden and Eva McAlea for their fine accompaniment.
To staff members Betty Hogg, Alice McAlea and Toni O’Neill, for organising the hospitality in the community centre afterward, we thank you along with our sacristan Mary Polland for her support and collegiality.

Our P6 and P7 classes welcomed Carole and Erin from Danske Bank into school yesterday as they led a workshop based on their Money Smart programme. Money Smart is a financial literacy initiative that supports pupils and encourages them to learn about money and personal finance from a young age.
A range of topics were covered that included the operations of a bank, the importance of living within a budget, problems related to debt and the advantages of saving money. The children gained immensely from the workshop and the real life learnings that were taken from it.
Moving forward, the school will be operating with Danske Bank to deliver a range of modules to our children from P1 up to P7.

P7 will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation tomorrow at 3pm in the Sacred Heart Church. Those getting confirmed do not need to attend school tomorrow.
The boys and girls in P4, P5, and P6 will be forming the choir for the occasion. I would ask that tomorrow they wear their full school uniform. All those in the choir can be picked up from school at 4pm after the service is over.
P1, P2 and P3 can come to school in their PE uniform tomorrow. There will be After School Club provision from 2pm to 4pm. Please note that there is no 4pm to 4:45pm After School Club.
After the Confirmation ceremony, all P7’s and their families and friends are invited to the community centre for tea, coffee and refreshments. Raphael Mason Photography will be set up in the Young at Heart building for photos as well. Please bring along the required payment in cash for the photographer.
Thank you.
The school were delighted to share in with P6 pupil Jude and his recent success in his guitar examinations. Jude has now achieved his Grade 1 level with specific focus on rock and pop. Trinity College, London, are the awarding body and we are ecstatic that Jude continues to enjoy his guitar playing and the fact that he is making so much progress at it.
Well done!
The USPCA visited school this morning for a special presentation in regard to their work as an organisation. The focus was on bringing animal welfare to life, developing empathy and increasing understanding of the needs of animals.
The workshop was very informative with the old adage, ‘prevention is better than a cure,’ ringing true. The advice and guidance given helped to inspire as well as promoting responsible pet ownership and an appreciation of our native wildlife.

Thank you goes to POSH for organising this fundraising venture and to all the parents along with staff members for their participation in the event. Thanks too goes to Dundrum GAC for the use of their grounds for the event.
A memorable occasion for all of our children who shone bright in a sea of colour!
