Defining, recognising, embedding and celebrating success within our school is very important to us.
Today the Mathlete award was introduced by our Numeracy subject lead Mr Doyle. This monthly accolade centres on a host of achievements namely:
- Mastering a challenging mental maths strategy and applying it accurately.
- Demonstrating significant improvement in mental arithmetic or problem solving tasks.
- Persevering in learning new concepts and showing resilience in tackling tricky Maths problems.
- Helping peers by sharing strategies or explaining thinking during group work.
- Exceeding expectations by consistently performing at a high standard in Maths activities.
Our most deserving inaugural recipients were: Oonagh P1, Grace P2, Matty P3, Luke P4, Annie and Rebecca P5, Austin P6 and Charlie P7.
Well done!
As the end of November approaches, our Pupil of the Month recipients were lauded for their fantastic efforts throughout these last four weeks. Kohan P1, Fionn P2, Niamh P3, Caoimhe P4, Ronan P5, Gerard P6 and Darragh P7 were all on top of their game and brought so much positivity and vibrancy to their school experience throughout the period.
Well done!
Islay P3
Islay has worked exceptionally hard so far in P3 and has made massive improvements. She is very polite, well-mannered and loves to play practical games to help her in Numeracy and Literacy.
Islay has shown great progress with her reading, especially in her expression and fluency. She is showing more confidence with her ability to write independently too.
Islay loves to be creative and expresses this in any art activity that is done in class. Mr McCartan is very proud of her participation with the preparations for the Christmas play as well and she has really enjoyed learning all the songs and dances.
Islay participates strongly in class and will always try her best within tasks. She enjoys learning different mental maths strategies such as counting on and back and is becoming more confident within Numeracy thanks to this.
Islay loves playing with her friends in school and really enjoys life in Sacred Heart P.S. She deserves this recognition for the hard work she has been putting in.
Well done!
P7 took a step back in time as part of their World Around Us topic and experienced what a day in the life of a Victorian school child would have looked and felt like. They focused on the 3R’s (reading, writing and arithmetic), took part in a series of drills, played some traditional games and got a taste of gruel.
Well done to all the boys and girls who looked amazing and made such a fantastic effort!

In their World Around Us topic, P1 have been learning about the important role of firefighters. Today, they discovered how to safely light a fire, practised fire safety and learned how to extinguish a fire. The children also explored key scientific concepts, such as how heat transfers to other objects and they observed the changes that occurred when marshmallows were toasted.
Today marks Mr Lundy’s last day in Sacred Heart P.S. before he sets off on his travels to Australia on Wednesday. A presentation was made to him on behalf of the children and staff of the school at lunchtime.
The whole school community would like to place on record their thanks to Mr Lundy for the contribution that he has made to Sacred Heart P.S. over these last two years. We wish him well in his future endeavours!
