Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
After kickstarting our inaugural Pupil Forum concept last month, this morning a group of seven children (one from each class) met with Mr Fitzsimons for the second instalment.
The focus today was all based around learning in school. Four questions were posed namely: ‘What do you like learning in school?’ ‘What is your favourite subject area and why?’ ‘What is the best way to learn?’ and ‘What are the challenging aspects of learning?’ The responses and discussions that emanated from this were extremely beneficial.
Numeracy, World Around Us topic work, the RE Grow in Love programme and the creative writing aspect of Literacy were some of the most popular areas of learning in school. Group work, outdoor exploration, games, IPad apps, partner exchange and the use of digital technology were put forward as the best ways to learn. The challenging aspects of learning were also delved into with higher order thinking Numeracy, extended writing, problem solving across the curriculum, division of numbers and generating ideas for narrative writing emerging.
All in all, a very productive Pupil Forum session that provided serious food for thought moving forward.
The latest instalment of our annual World Book Day celebrations did not disappoint. A frenetic occurrence of wonderful and exciting opportunities took place. Each class was alive with thematic literary endeavours whilst P4/P5 got to do an ASPIRE link up with Knockevin in a suitably themed Dr Seuss event at their Downpatrick campus. In the afternoon the whole school then took to their feet for a World Book Day inspired Daily Mile!

Mr Doyle’s P4/P5 class tied in an aspect of their current World Around Us topic with a Forest School initiative in what turned out to be a highly enjoyable lesson yesterday.
Led by Miss Crozier, the focus was on den building. This structured undertaking truly tested the boys and girls in many aspects including team work, organisation, creativity and resourcefulness.
The finished shelters were a credit to all involved and kudos goes to the pupils for completing the task to the best of their ability!
Eoin P5, Eilish P5, Caragh P5 and Charlie P7 (missing from picture) represented Sacred Heart P.S. at the Ulster Schools’ Swimming Competition on Saturday in Lisburn.
Everyone smashed their PB’s whilst just narrowly missing out on qualification for the next round.
A solid effort by all of our swimmers. Well done!
Every class in school was called into action today by our Eco Council to partake in the Big Spring Clean! This undertaking saw our pupils go to different areas of the village to complete litter picks. It was a brilliant effort by all involved and the children deserve great credit for their endeavours.
