• Fizz, Pop, Bang

  P7 had a fantastic time at W5 in Belfast with their Knockevin friends today as part of their latest ASPIRE get together.

  After exploring each floor they got to take part in the ‘Fizz, Pop, Bang!’ workshop where they examined temporary and permanent changes through a number of different experiments.

  One of the targets in our school World Around Us Action Plan this academic year was to provide a structured and coherent approach to assessing scientific knowledge and skills.

  We are now grateful to have a fully resourced science cabinet in school that provides the children and staff with a large range and variety of equipment that can be utilised for investigations and experiments.

  During Science Week, P5/P6 and P7 were all engrossed in different scientific undertakings, culminating in some very thought provoking outcomes!

• pHizz and Sizzle Science Show

   The W5 outreach team were warmly welcomed back to Sacred Heart P.S. for another brilliant educational engagement.

  The pHizz and Sizzle Science Show was a fun and interesting workshop that brought in a host of learning for the boys and girls as well as being another facet of our Science Week activities.

• Science Week/ASPIRE Link Up

   Mr Doyle’s P4/P5 class linked up once again with their counterparts from Knockevin for the latest instalment of their ASPIRE project.

  With it being Science Week, the children created circuits using their bodies. They then learnt about conductors and insulators before they were tasked with using materials to protect eggs when they are dropped from a height. Finally, groups were formed and they worked together to design, build and then blast off their rockets!

• 3D Shapes

  P1 kicked off their new Numeracy topic, 3D shapes, with an exciting trip to the beach. They explored the differences between 2D and 3D shapes and experimented with creating various shapes in the sand. The children demonstrated fantastic mathematical language and excellent teamwork skills. 

  P.S. A huge thank you to POSH for providing our brand new buckets and spades.

  

• POSH Sponsored Walk

  We are all gearing up for our POSH Sponsored Walk that takes place this coming Saturday (22nd March)!

   

  Parking is only available on the concrete parking area with the parking payment machines at the reserve. Once this is full no further parking can be accommodated at this end of the reserve and people should not park on or alongside the grass. There will of course be other visitors on site parking as well. Families can be dropped off/picked up in this area too. Dogs are welcome but must be leads. Please be wary of livestock that are currently grazing on the reserve.

   

  Attached is a map of the route including starting and finishing points. It is 5.5km in total, so just over 3 miles. The route will be signposted along the way as well. If all sponsorship forms along with money collected could be sent into school on Friday that would be great! Remember too that families and friends who can't give cash can donate online at https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/SponsoredBeachWalk

  The staff and Board of Governors of Sacred Heart P.S. deeply regret the death of Mary Kielty (RIP). Mrs Kielty was a former employee of the school, working as part of our kitchen staff during the 1990’s.

  Her funeral will take place in the Sacred Heart Chapel on Monday at 1pm with her remains leaving her late residence on Main St at 12:45pm. Burial afterwards in Aughlisnafin graveyard.

  To that effect, P1, P2 and P3 will finish school at 1:30pm on Monday. Those that require After School Club provision can stay on with the usual arrangements applying. Young at Heart will also finish at 1:30pm on Monday. I would ask that those collecting children at this time please be prompt and take into account the high volume of traffic that will be parked/operating in the vicinity of the school/chapel.

  Eimear P1

  Eimear is a shining star in the P1 class and we are delighted to present her with the Principal’s Award. She is always polite and greets everyone with a warm smile, bringing joy to those around her. Her caring and nurturing nature make her a wonderful friend, not only to her classmates but also to her friends in Young at Heart and Knockevin. Eimear’s bubbly personality and positive attitude mean that she gets on with everyone and this is a fantastic personal trait to have! 

  Eimear loves trips to the beach and forest as she always embraces new experiences with enthusiasm. She is a hardworking and well behaved pupil who always tries her best in all areas of school life. Miss Byrne is especially proud of the fantastic progress she has made with her handwriting. It has improved massively! 

  Well done Eimear! Keep up the amazing work!
