Choose Respect’ was the theme for Anti-Bullying Week 2024 and there was high participation across the school last week as the boys and girls learned some very important detail in relation to this crucial part of the preventative curriculum.
Odd Socks Day took place on the Tuesday with children coming to school wearing odd socks which helped highlight the embracing of differences between us all. HIP Psychology then delivered some brilliant online workshops to our P4, P5, P6 and P7’s on Wednesday. P2/P3 used the Just2Easy platform to bring some artistic endeavour into their Odd Socks Day work whilst other classes utilised resources from the Anti-Bullying Alliance to assist in conveying the important messages.
Mr Doyle, our Designated Teacher for Child Protection/Safeguarding, established a poster competition with the whole school entering. Each winner got a prize for their efforts too.

This Friday (22nd November), the school will be engaging with ‘Ditch the Dark Day.’ Children are encouraged to come in wearing their brightest colours (non-uniform) as we help raise awareness of road safety during the dark evenings of the winter months.
On Friday past, some members of our Eco-Council presented to the rest of the children at assembly on the theme of ‘Ditch the Dark Day’ and the important messages that we are looking to embed as part of the action.

Last week the Student Council led a very successful fundraising initiative for Children in Need. ‘Guess the Amount of Sweets in the Jar’ and ‘Guess the Name of the Teddy’ were the two enterprises that were undertaken, with a grand total of £120 being raised!
Méabh in P7 and Kasia in P5 were the two winners of the competitions and today they were presented with their prizes. Well done to the Student Council for promoting this thoughtful charitable exercise and to staff member Annette for her help in co-ordinating it.

In Sacred Heart P.S. we strive to acknowledge the successes of our children in and out of school but we are always cognisant of the successes of our staff members too.
On Friday night, Dundrum GAC held their annual dinner dance in the Burrendale hotel, Newcastle. We were delighted to see Mr Doyle pick up the Senior Mens’ Player of the Year award, a staggering 19 years after he first won it in 2005! Our classroom assistants Michelle and Katie-Louise won the G4MO Sportswoman of the Year and Minor Girls’ Player of the Year awards respectively as well.
Well done to you all!
The school ran an internal Anti-Bullying Week poster competition. ‘Choose Respect’ was the theme for this year’s instalment and our children were asked to come up with poster designs to reflect this. There were some wonderful designs created with very pertinent messages, so well done to Coby P1, Jim P2, Jessica P3, Lochlan P4, Eilish and Aoife P5, Isla P6 and Charlie P7 for having their winning entries selected.
