Forest School P1
Thu 09 Jan 2025P1 headed up to the forest today to look for signs of winter. They had a great time doing a science experiment, collecting all kinds of winter treasures and then putting them in water to see what would happen when it freezes. They also enjoyed exploring the frosty trails, looking at how the plants and trees had changed and talking about how animals get ready for winter.

Trailblazer Programme
Wed 08 Jan 2025P7 had a great start to their Trailblazer programme today. They explored different acting techniques and started to plan their stories which they will then turn into films!
Trailblazers is a project that supports pupils in exploring Good Relations issues whilst at the same time learning film making skills. The programme is proven to deliver social cohesion, the encouragement of fair and positive attitudes towards community and culture, the use of animation/film as a gateway for creativity, thought processing and transferable skills, which is all guided by professional artist facilitators.

Icy Weather
Tue 07 Jan 2025If all pupils, parents and staff could be extremely cautious coming to school this morning. Despite being salted, the areas around both entrances are still very icy and underfoot conditions are treacherous. Children should come directly to their classrooms from 8:45am onward.

Speech and Language + Phonics Workshop - 15/1/25
Mon 16 Dec 2024On Wednesday 15th January the school will be hosting a Speech and Language + Phonics Workshop. It will be held at 2:15pm in the school hall. The Speech and Language element will be led by Rachel Dickson of Let's Expand Communication. The Phonics segment will be guided by our Literacy subject lead Miss Byrne.
The workshop is open to all parents. We would also like to invite those parents from Young at Heart along too and we would particularly encourage the parents of our Foundation Stage children (P1 + P2) to attend as well as the content is particularly pertinent to that age group.

- P5/P6 Christmas Play (Nightmare Before Christmas) at 11:15am.
- P7 Christmas Play (Christmas with the Krackers) at 1:15pm. - POSH Grand Prize Christmas Draw being done in the school hall at 2pm. All sold ticket stubs and monies to be left into school on this morning.

- School finishes at 11:30am for all pupils for the Christmas holidays. This is a non-uniform day.

- School choir, P4 to P7, singing at Christmas Eve Mass in the Sacred Heart Church at 7pm.

St Louis G.S Kilkeel Outreach
Wed 11 Dec 2024Mr Niall McAleenan, Head of PE in St Louis G.S. Kilkeel, along with two of his colleagues, visited Sacred Heart P.S. this afternoon for a Gaelic football taster session with P6/P7 as part of their outreach programme.
All of the children throughly enjoyed the coaching and games. As a feeder school to St Louis G.S. we were thankful of their visit today and we look forward to developing our partnership further into the future.

Basketball Tournament
Wed 11 Dec 2024P7 travelled to Shimna College, Newcastle, this morning to take part in a Basketball NI Jnr NBA tournament alongside St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville.
The boys and girls were sorted into four teams: The Chicago Bulls, The LA Lakers, The Phoenix Suns and The Boston Celtics. They enjoyed three competitive games each before the Bulls and the Celtics progressed to the final. With both teams drawing, the game went to extra time with the first basket winning. After a fierce few minutes, the Bulls came out victorious!
Well done to Charlie who was chosen as the Sacred Heart MVP and Niamh who was our MVE.
A huge thank you to Niamh, Lauren and Michael from Basketball NI for facilitating such an enjoyable tournament and to St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville for being excellent teammates.
