As part of our involvement in Science Week, all the boys and girls from P1 to P7 were set a reading challenge.
Each child received a reading passport in which they could earn star stickers for reading various scientific related articles and books, either inside or outside school.
Pictured are those children who received ten or more stars on their passport that earned them a specially commissioned certificate from World Around Us co-ordinator Miss Crozier.
Well done!

All those children who earned certificates for the Science Week Challenge were entered into a prize draw for a scientific related prize.
Darragh was the lucky winner in the P1/P2 category as he took home with him ‘My First Science Kit.’ Noomi was drawn out as the P3/P4 winner and she was delighted to receive the ‘Rainbow Volcano Lava Lab.’ Charlie was picked out of the hat for the P5/P6/P7 section as he got the ‘Mega Science Series - Science Magic Kit.’
Enjoy your prizes everyone!
We were immensely proud this morning of our P7 pupil Ramona who put in an incredible performance in the final of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Environmental Youth Speak Competition.
Ramona qualified for the last six after her entry was selected from 100’s from across the council area. Her speech, which centred on plastic pollution in our oceans, received unanimous praise. She was also the only competitor to do it without any prompt notes!
A wonderful experience in which she received second prize as runner up. Well done!
Our P3’s received the Sacrament of Reconciliation this afternoon in the Sacred Heart Church. Led by celebrant Canon Fleck, the boys and girls participated brilliantly in the service, contributing via song, music, drama and readings.
Thank you goes to Mr McCartan for leading the class in their preparations and to our classroom assistants Mrs Michelle Poland and Mrs Ciara Stratton for their support. Gratitude is extended to our school choir under the auspices of Mr Doyle for their beautiful singing and musical accompaniment.
Finally, to the boys and girls of P3. You have now reached another milestone on your spiritual journey. Well done!
Tickets (£1 a strip) go on sale tomorrow for our two Easter hampers. They can be bought from Annette in the yard between 8:45am and 8:55am and 3pm to 3:10pm. Children will get an opportunity to purchase throughout the school day as well. The draw will be made on Tuesday 4th April.
All proceeds will be going to Trócaire.
As part of our Lenten fundraising drive, this afternoon we held a sponsored ‘Sponge the Teacher’ event. The children’s excitement levels went through the roof for this venture! A fine total of £272.83 was raised for Trócaire.
Thank you goes to Miss McClean for organising it all. She was extremely popular with the teaching staff after they got their soakings! Well done too is relayed to our teachers who all participated so gamely.
P1 had an excellent day learning all about the inner workings of a dairy farm, the journey of milk from the farm to the shop and even had a go at milking a cow.
The children got to feed and pet lots of different animals and had a fantastic time in the play facilities.
The staff at Streamvale remarked on how well behaved the P1s were and that they were a credit to our school!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
