This week saw Sacred Heart P.S. push through the '100 Days of School' barrier and today we acknowledged that milestone in our school year.
P2 imagined what life would be like if they reached the grand old age of 100 using a special 'ageing' app.
P4 got tremendously creative in the school yard with a superb array of designs to mark the century of days in school.
P6/P7 entered a reflective mood and looked back on their school year to date, charting the highs of their endeavours so far.
Today Miss Crozier’s P6/P7 class welcomed Michael Nugent, founder and owner of Nugelato, to school for the next stage of their JEP journey.
A Q&A session was held, with the boys and girls getting the opportunity to ask Michael a range of questions related to his entrepreneurship and business.
This proved to be a fantastic exercise and everyone learned so much from it. A huge thank you goes to Michael for participating and for all the free Nugelato ‘Nuggy Pot’ vouchers that he handed out to the class. Michael has also invited the P6/P7’s to Nugelato in Newcastle in Term 3 to see it in operation!

We are currently making plans to celebrate the 50th Anniversary in 2023 of Sacred Heart P.S. on our current school site. To this effect, a committee will be formed to help organise the various events throughout 2023. Please see below for further details. It would be great if this could be shared among all alumni and those currently associated with our school community.
Thank you.
It was with great satisfaction that Fionn (P1) was today given the Principal’s Award. It was noted that Fionn is a very sociable boy who engages well with his peers and adults alike. Miss Murray also remarked how Fionn is a great helper to the other boys and girls in his class when they are, for example, needing help with understanding a piece of work. Fionn shows great confidence in everything that he does and is a very deserving winner this week!
Some of the P5, P6 and P7 boys and girls got the opportunity to participate today in the Sustrans Active Travel initiative.
Sustrans look to increase the number of children who regularly cycle to school and they promote the numerous benefits of doing so including:
- Increased physical activity levels resulting in improved health and wellbeing.
- Reduced congestion and pollution around schools.
- Improved academic performance and attendance rates.
- Increased road safety awareness.
- Increased confidence, self-esteem and independence for young people.
Lá Fhéile Bríde is an important day in the Irish calendar as we celebrate the feast day of our matron saint, St Brigid.
This morning the school listened to a special prayer before each class participated in different activities including making St Brigid’s Crosses, art work related to St Brigid’s Cloak and information presentations on the Saint.

Prayer to Saint Brigid
Brigid,
You were a woman of peace.
You brought harmony where
there was conflict.
You brought light to the darkness.
You brought hope to the downcast.
May the mantle of your peace cover
those who are troubled and anxious,
and may peace be firmly rooted
in our hearts and in our world.
Inspire us to act justly and
to reverence all God has made.
Brigid, you were a voice for
the wounded and the weary.
Strengthen what is weak within us.
Calm us into a quietness
that heals and listens.
May we grow each day into greater
wholeness in mind, body and spirit.
Amen.

Our After School Gardening Club were busy at work this afternoon weeding and preparing the ground for the spring planting of new wild flowers. The lane way that leads from Main St adjacent to the chapel, up the steps to the school yard, will be completely transformed.
Thank you boys and girls for your efforts with this to date.
Today the Love for Life team visited Sacred Heart P.S. to put on three RSE themed workshops for the children. The P3 and P4 classes took part in ‘Wonder!’ while the P6’s enjoyed ‘Choices and Changes.’ P7 participated in ‘What’s Inside?’
We witnessed effective and high-quality RSE teaching and learning today which has provided our young people with the opportunity to examine their own values and beliefs in light of those held by others. In doing so, this can contribute to a more tolerant and inclusive society by fostering respect and understanding of difference, and empathy for the views, emotions and feelings of others.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
