Our second annual POSH Community Litter Pick took place this morning and what a success it turned out to be!
Pupils, their families, members of the school community and staff pulled together to clean the village in a superb team effort. Sacred Heart P.S. is a school at the heart of the local community and we believe in giving back to the locality and today’s event was testament to this.
Thank you to everyone who was involved. Sponsorship money can be returned to school on Monday. All funds raised go directly into benefitting our children and their education.
We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all those local businesses and organisations that threw their weight behind today’s POSH Community Litter Pick. Your support and acknowledgement of our efforts is much appreciated.
Similarly, we thank POSH under the chairpersonship of Shauna McMullan for their organisation and backing of today’s event. Particular mention is reserved for POSH member Susan Byrne for her efforts in generating sponsorship.
Thank you goes to:

The school community would like to congratulate our P1 pupil Sophie for her outstanding performance at last weekend’s Newry Musical Fèis. Sophie was awarded the coveted ’Certificate of Merit’ for her recitation.
To cap it all off, she performed her poem ’The Flint by Christina Rossetti’ this afternoon in front of a live audience during our online school assembly.
Well done Sophie!
An incredibly busy week in Sacred Heart P.S. rolled to a close today with the Pupil of the Week awards being designated during our online school assembly this afternoon. Well done to the following who were all recognised for their successes:
P1 - Lorcan
P2 - Scarlett
P3 - Charley
P4 - Noah
P5 - Cara
P6 - Gerard
P7 - Martin
Over the past few months we have welcomed Lisa O’Hare into our school every Friday. Lisa is a qualified school counsellor with particular interest in children and adolescents.
In her collaboration with Sacred Heart P.S. she has been hosting small group sessions focusing on emotional regulation, exploring themes surrounding anger and anxiety.
Whilst reactive work has been taking place in these smaller settings, there has also been a lot of proactive initiatives occurring within classes (P4 to P7). These themes have centred around kindness, conflict resolution, empathy and self-esteem.
A host of crucial personal development and growth has taken place among our children in respect of these interventions.
Eoin from P7 was today’s Principal’s Award winner. Eoin’s dedication and commitment to his P7 year has really shone through. He tackles problems with confidence and has made great strides within Numeracy. Eoin exhibits first class manners and will always ensure he greets all members of staff and his fellow students. He is a very popular member of the class who brings a lot of positivity to all lessons.
Well done!
Friday 8th April will see our P6/P7 class host their ‘Showcase Day’ as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP) that they have been partaking in since the beginning of the academic year.
The ‘Showcase Day’ will afford all the children in the school (and parents/carers at pick up time), an opportunity to purchase a Be Happy Band. These bracelets have been handcrafted by the boys and girls and they have turned out brilliantly!
They will be on sale for £1.50 each with a special deal of £2.50 for two. #Dream #Believe #Fearless #Cool
Our thriving pre-school afternoon club, Young at Heart, was all go this week as they made the most of the beautiful Spring weather.
It was fun in the sun as they created Mother’s Day crafts that included flower pots and butterfly cards. The children also planted sunflowers and have been learning about the tallest and shortest.
The boys and girls would like to wish all their mums a very happy Mother’s Day!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
