The P5 and P6/P7 classes explored their local area as part of the learning process for their World Around Us topics. P5 have been studying ‘Dundrum - Our History’ whilst P6/P7 have been enjoying everything about ‘World War 2.’
It is vitally important that our locality is integrated into our World Around Us topics. This enables the boys and girls to make local connections with their learning, making it more real.
Well done to St Michael’s P.S. Finnis who became the first winners of the Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup at today’s tournament.
Finnis were unbeaten throughout the group stages and saved their best performance to last as they defeated a gallant St Colmcille’s P.S. Downpatrick in the final.
St Nicholas P.S. Ardglass and Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum ended up sharing the Dundrum GAC Shield after drawing in the decider.
A huge thanks goes to our referees for the day, Mr McCartan and Damien Flaherty along with Kaylee Poland, Katie-Louise Poland and Corey Trainor for their assistance. Thanks too goes to Dundrum GAC President Eddie Campbell for presenting the Shield on behalf of the club. It was great to see Nuala Carey, wife of the late Jarlath present the Cup to the winning team. The words of Jarlath’s son Martin were appreciated and acknowledged by all.
Well done everyone!
Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup winners: St Michael’s P.S. Finnis.
Runners up: St Colmcille’s P.S. Downpatrick.
Dundrum GAC Shield winners (joint): St Nicholas P.S. Ardglass and Sacred Heart P.S Dundrum.
With the onset of spring, we welcomed local guitar tutor Mrs Mona Owens into our school to deliver weekly lessons. Over the past few months, those boys and girls who availed of the lessons have expressed their enjoyment at how they are progressing with the instrument.
Today marked the last group of lessons of the academic year with the children getting the opportunity to showcase their learning. There were some great renditions with everything from The Dubliners to Chuck Berry!
As a parting gift, Mona presented Sacred Heart P.S. with a framed copy of a song she has composed for us: ‘Striving for Greatness Together.’ The song reflects our school motto and we thank Mona for this very thoughtful and endearing composition.

The rain failed to dampen spirits as we held our annual Sports Day at Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte on Friday. The huge crowd in attendance were treated to four hours of events.
The boys and girls from Young at Heart along with the P1 to P7 classes had a great day out with the effort on show second to none.
Thank you goes to all the staff of the school for their support of the event, in particular Mr McCartan and Mr Doyle for their organising and co-ordination of the day.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
