The children in P1 have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly, which is certainly one of the most amazing transformations in nature.
The boys and girls have used some great observational language, created brilliant drawings and have even written an array of fantastic sentences!
Thank you to Matty for bringing the caterpillar into school 🐛
Today P4 ventured to the Ballydugan medieval settlement.
On arrival they were greeted by a contingent of Vikings who brought them to meet Jarl in the longhouse. Here they were told about what life was like many years ago for the first Viking settlers in Ireland. Norse mythology was then revealed through a tapestry that was made by the settlers.
Following this, the children were divided into smaller groups where they rotated through a number of practical activities such as archery, bread making, observing the blacksmith carrying out his duties and a weapon demonstration.
Finally, the children were put through a Viking battle drill, before taking on the Vikings in a shield wall battle!
The boys and girls found the trip very enjoyable and engaging and it presented them with a real insight into what life must have been like for these ancient foreign settlers. It has certainly provided a stimulating learning experience for everyone with the class World Around Us topic being all about Vikings.
With it being ‘Cycle to School Week,’ we welcomed John Ross of Ross Cycles to Sacred Heart P.S. today.
John took each class through biking safety instructions as well as explaining all the different features of a bike and how to keep bikes/scooters well maintained. Each class finished off with an invaluable Q&A session.
Thank you to Mr McCartan for organising this venture and to John for his participation.

Darlene - P4
Darlene has made a fantastic start to Primary 4. Mr Doyle has been delighted with her work ethic and appetite for learning. She shows a real dedication towards her reading, Literacy, Numeracy and overall presentation.
Darlene displays great enthusiasm during all lessons and her continuous positivity is something to be admired.
I am impressed at the level of confidence, maturity, responsibility and independence that she has shown so far and we have no doubt this will continue as the year progresses.
Well done!
Our first full month back in school has come to an end as we say farewell to September whilst welcoming in October.
Everyone has settled into the academic year with ease. Lots of exciting and valuable learning and initiatives have been taking place within the school with the children fully immersed throughout.
Today at assembly, we recognised the fantastic contributions of our Pupil of the Month winners. It was extremely interesting to hear why these children deserved their awards and what they had done to earn them.
Well done to Úna (P1), Sophie (P2), Eilish (P3), Gerard (P4), Alfie (P5), Charlie (P6) and Riley (P7)!
