Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
P1 enjoyed a farm themed indoor and outdoor play session with their friends from Knockevin today. The children had lots of fun working as a team when playing in our fantastic outdoor area. The boys and girls from Knockevin met our chicks Sunny, Dubh and Freddy and heard all about what it takes to keep our them happy and healthy.
This week P2 enjoyed a Forest School lesson at the castle. They played a game of 'birds and worms' where the 'worms' had to hide the worms and the 'birds' had to find them. The children quickly realised it was much harder to find the green worms as they were camouflaged.
The class discussed how difficult it must be for birds to find worms during winter and some of our P2 birds were very hungry by the end of the game!
As part of our acknowledgement of Fairtrade Fortnight, the school Eco Council organised a tuck shop at break time throughout this past week.
This was a tuck shop with a difference though as all the goods that were available to purchase were Fairtrade certified.
The extensive range of products on offer coupled with the keen prices ensured that the initiative was a hit with the children. The operation of the tuck shop also greatly improved the practical skills of our hard working Eco Council!
The author and illustrator of ‘Little Creatures of the Magical Forest,’ Loretta Dinsmore and Molly Ward respectively, visited school today as part of our World Book Day celebrations.
P1/P2, P3/P4 and P5/P6/P7 all got to listen to three separate read throughs of the book with everyone enjoying the fantastic story and amazing drawings.
We were very grateful too that Loretta and Molly presented us with a personalised signed copy of their book to keep in our school library as a memento.
Sacred Heart P.S. came alive today for World Book Day 2023!
Children came dressed to school as their chosen literary character and with their favourite book in tow.
There was lots happening in every class with paired reading, book cover designing, online live lessons and reading activities taking place not to mention a special author/illustrator visit.
Everyone had a great day with a love of reading and books very much at its core.
Local author (Loretta Dinsmore) and illustrator (Molly Ward) will be coming to do a reading of their sensational new children's book with all classes from P1-P7 for World Book Day on Thursday. Set in the Mourne Mountains, the book is a fantastic opportunity to inspire a love of reading and illustrating in our children whilst educating our young people about how to appreciate and care for the environment.
There will be copies of the book available to buy on the day for £10. Children can bring the money to school on Thursday.
'A story of magical creatures, fairies, Mother nature, the Fairy Queen and Rua the singing squirrel. The book takes the reader on an adventure, whilst gently educating children and adults on the serious environmental issues that are destroying Earth. Set in the Mourne Mountains, Co Down, Little Creatures will engage and entertain all who reads it.'
The P4 children had their final Shared Education meeting with Knockevin today. It was a celebratory trip to Tollymore Forest Park.
The boys and girls had a shared walk, followed by a scavenger hunt competition, finding various natural items which were firstly brown then green and finally anything that wasn't green or brown!
After break the children had to identify different leaves, animal footprints and woodland birds. Then a collective lunch took place before everyone enjoyed their time together in the playpark.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
