Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Hugh is an extremely kind and well-mannered student who loves school life and enjoys learning. He is a hard worker who has a keen eye for learning new facts and telling them to the class. Hugh always comes into school with a smile on his face and is full of enthusiasm to learn something new each day.
He has a great personality and shows a caring nature to help others when they need it whether that is outside in the playground or in the classroom.
Hugh retains information excellently and Mr McCartan is really impressed with how he has been staying concentrated and focused on tasks.
Hugh is a very deserving winner of this award as he continues each day to be a great role model for Sacred Heart P.S.
Well done!
We are well and truly getting settled into school life here again in Sacred Heart P.S. Routine and structure aligned to great learning opportunities and fun have been a big focus these last five days. Therefore, it was fantastic to recognise our Pupil of the Week winners this afternoon at assembly namely Logan (P2), Niamh (P3), Annie (P4), Darlene (P5), Méabh (P6) and Lorcan (P7).
Well done!
Guitar lessons with Mrs Mona Owens restarted again today and we are delighted once again to offer this provision within the school. The boys and girls under Mona’s tutelage have been making excellent progress from last year and we look forward to having them play for us at future school assemblies and events.
Today the school participated in the annual ‘Roald Dahl Day.’ To mark this special literary event, there were school wide internal competitions held. Foundation Stage enjoyed participating in a colouring competition, Key Stage 1 were involved in designing an alternative book cover whilst Key Stage 2 engaged in writing a book review of their favourite Dahl story.
Well done to our winners on their efforts!

This morning Danielle Begley (Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Biodiversity Officer) visited Sacred Heart P.S. for the official unveiling of our new ‘Secret Garden.’
The project was funded by a ‘School Pollinator Garden Grant’ in partnership with ‘Live Here Love Here’ and ‘DAERA.’
Miss Crozier, as the lead in Eco activities in school, initiated and took charge of the project from the outset. We would like to thank her for her efforts. We also extend our gratitude to Paddy Cunningham (Cunningham’s Flowers) and Noel Cunningham (NC Civils) for their guidance and industry in ensuring that the undertaking was completed to the highest standards.
Jessica P2
The Principal’s Award this week goes to P2 student Jessica. Jessica has been working exceptionally hard so far since we have come back and she has really shown the way for all.
Jessica displays excellent manners every day and always puts her hand up to ask a question and participate. She is a great friend to everyone and is always ready for work.
Jessica also enjoys Numeracy and has super fun during some of the starter games the class have been playing before they begin classwork.
Jessica takes her time and ensures all of her work is neat and tidy. She loves to read and really enjoys quiet time on the mat to catch up on a book after she has completed her work. Jessica has made a fantastic start to P2.
Well done!
Miss Byrne’s new P1 class have nearly completed their first full week in Sacred Heart P.S. and what a great time they have had to date!
The boys and girls have been busy learning outdoors, doing everything from storytelling to going on trips to the beach with their P7 buddies. They also created their own ice cream role-play shop inspired by our good weather.
Please see attached the After School Club programme for Term 1.1 that begins on Monday 4th September and runs to Friday 27th October.
The only change to pricing is that the ActiSport session on a Thursday is now £3 a child. Every other session during the week is £2. There is no charge for Transfer Test Club for the P7's.
P1's can avail of the After School Club service when they begin their full day in school, week beginning 25th September.
