Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Constructed by John de Courcey, sometime near the beginning of the 13th century, following his invasion of Ulster. Dundrum Castle, built to control access into Lecale from the west and south, stands on the top of a rocky hill commanding fine views south over Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains, just above our school.
‘Castles’ has proved to be a very apt World Around Us topic for Mr McCartan’s P2/P3 class. The boys and girls ventured up today and had a fine learning experience, bringing history to life.
Mr Doyle’s P4’s are currently engaged with instructional writing within class. They are looking at all different types of instructions, how they are formed and the purpose of them.
To aid their learning, yesterday they all took a trip to Scopers in the village to learn how to make cookies. Led by chef Paul Cunningham, the boys and girls got the opportunity to follow through with direct instructions until the end product was created.
The cookies turned out to be amazing and everyone enjoyed the fruits of their labour once they returned to class. A big thank you goes to Paul for hosting a truly unique learning experience.
Over the past two days, a selection of our school choir sang in the Dundrum Inn at the annual senior citizens’ Christmas luncheon.
The boys and girls, under the directorship of Mr Doyle, brilliantly sang a host of festive favourites to keep everyone entertained. All those in attendance were full of praise for the choir with that Christmas feeling very much in the air!
Ellie P7
Ellie has made a huge contribution to school life in such a short period of time. She has proven to be a caring and reliable buddy to the P1's and a very capable Digital Leader who is always willing to assist others with their learning. She regularly looks out for those younger than her, and those in her own class, showcasing her kind and responsible nature.
Ellie is conscientious with her work, resulting in top quality pieces of writing, always accompanied with fantastic presentation. This is also reflected within her homework, which is always completed to the highest of standards.
Ellie is willing to learn, take on advice, ask questions and always strives to improve. She is an excellent role model for those around her.
Well done!
As part of our Scoil Spreagtha project, the school have introduced the ‘Gaeilgeoir na Míosa’ award. This is for the best Irish speaker of the month in school. December’s award has gone to Christopher in P7 for his integration of the language within Sacred Heart P.S. throughout the school day.
Maith thú Christopher!
As we enter one of the busiest periods in the academic year, it was a delight to see so much great work going on within our classes and Christmas production practices these last five days.
Seven pupils were singled out today at assembly for their sterling contribution to school life this week namely Daire P1, Logan P2, Hugh P3, Eilish P4, Caterina P5, Eoghan P6 and Emily P7.
Well done!
Festive spirit was well and truly in the air today as we held our annual Christmas dinner. A wonderful spread was enjoyed by the children and staff alike. Thank you goes to Betty and Maria in the kitchen for their superb organisation and delivery of the event along with our wonderful classroom assistants for their help too.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
Tomorrow (Thursday) is our school Christmas dinner and jumper day. All children are encouraged to come to school in their favourite Christmas jumper.
The cost of the dinner is £2.60 and this needs booked on SchoolMoney ASAP. Similiarily, if your child/children is/are Free School Meals, you also need to book the dinner for them online.
Thanks.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
