• I’m a Kid Get Me out of Here!

  P7 spent a lovely day at the Kilbroney Centre in Rostrevor taking part in ‘I’m a Kid, Get Me Out of Here!’ 

  Led by Liz Farnan, the boys and girls were split into two teams and had to complete a series of challenges. It was close but the girls came out victorious after they were able to identify the most birds. After a day filled with marshmallow toasting, den building and night lining, Ellie and Elliot were crowned the King and Queen of the jungle!

  Another enjoyable and fruitful ASPIRE outing with our friends from Knockevin.

• Butterflies Released

  P2/P3 revisited their Minibeasts World Around Us topic yesterday after discovering that their caterpillars had finally changed into beautiful butterflies. To mark this occasion the class went for a walk to the castle to let the butterflies out into the wild. 

  This was a very exciting day for all as the boys and girls have fully examined the life cycle of a butterfly from October right through until now with the finished product of two amazing butterflies emerging!

  Soccer success for Ruadhán P6 and Declan Óg P5 with Newcastle Town FC and rugby accreditation for James P2 with Ballynahinch RFC over the Easter break. Great sporting achievements boys!

  

• Term 3

  School returns tomorrow (Monday) for the beginning of Term 3. Breakfast Club is operational as usual from 8am and our new After School Club Programme will be up and running as well. 

  We look forward to seeing everyone back bright and early in the morning!

  Well done to our P6 pupil Ruadhán who was selected to play for Down at halftime against Fermanagh in this afternoon’s Ulster SFC quarter final clash between the Mouremen and the Ernemen at Brewster Park, Enniskillen!

• POSH Investment

  Over these past few months, the school have been utilising funds that have been provided by POSH to invest in different areas of the curriculum and school provision. The designated support funds have been put to great use currently and will continue to do so with whole school development.

  We place on record our thanks to POSH for their sterling fundraising work which enables a sizeable amount of money to be raised which in turn benefits our children’s educational experience directly. 

  Investment has taken place in seven different areas:

  - ICT -
  * New laptops.
  * New iPads and cases.
  * iPad charging/docking stations.
  * iPad organisational trolley.

  - PE -
  * Cricket set.
  * Replenishment of bibs, cones and footballs.

  - Numeracy -
  * Mini clocks.
  * Place value counters.
  * Manipulatives (blocks, counters).
  * Numeracy games and puzzles to resource FS, KS1 and KS2.
  * Numeracy Activity Based Learning equipment/resources for FS, KS1 and KS2. 

  - World Around Us -
  * Topic resources (including WW2 evacuees suitcase etc).
  * Science equipment.

  - Literacy/SEN -
  * Replenishment of books for the school reading scheme.
  * Writer’s pyramid resources.
  * Sets of SPAG activity cards.
  * Blending resources.
  * Additional intervention resources.

  - Outdoor Play -
  * KS2 puddle suits.
  * Digger for small playground.
  * Large sandpit for small playground.
  * Loose parts crates.
  * Bunker storage.

  - Whole School Development -
  * Storage container.
  * Arts and Crafts workshops for children.
  * Language specialist (Spanish/Mandarin) to be facilitated throughout the school.
  * Continuation of school trip cost supplementation along with Leavers’ jumpers, P7 Residential etc.
  * Staff training/development opportunities through outside providers.

  

• Numeracy in Action

  Using angle measuring devices, Mr Doyle’s P4/P5 class were tasked with exploring our school grounds to find acute, right angles and obtuse angles. This was a great practical opportunity with investigative skills to the fore.

  

• Andy Goldsworthy Beach Art

  P7 loved using their new puddle suits as they partook in our inaugural ‘Beach Week!’ They travelled to the shore and created their own beach art, taking inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy. One of the groups thought it fitting to create the Titanic, marking Titanic Day!

• Easter Eggs

  As per our annual tradition, every boy and girl from Young at Heart up to P7 receive an Easter Egg to mark the beginning of the Easter break. Make sure you hold off eating them until Easter Sunday!
