• P6/P7 Charity Donation

  Miss Crozier’s P6/P7 class recently undertook a hugely successful JEP venture. They had decided previously that a chunk of the profits made from their business enterprise would go to the Cancer Fund for Children Ireland in respect of Daisy Lodge, Newcastle.

  We welcomed Mairéad Rodgers from the organisation to the school to present her with our contribution.

• Cycling Proficiency

  After an absence of a number of years, we are enthused to welcome back the Cycling Proficiency programme into school. Under the guidance of Mr McCartan and Miss Crozier, some of our P7 pupils are being used as a pilot with a view to extending the course to other classes in the 2022/23 school year.

  

• New Playground Redevelopment

  Phase 1 of the regeneration of our playground areas is underway. Our junior playground now has a new 1 - 64 snakes and ladders along with a number rocket and alphabet steps. Added to this are two new exercise instruction zones.

  The senior playground has a full size 1 -100 snakes and ladders number square as well as a variable format clock. Alongside this is an extensive fitness trail with multidisciplinary features.

  Phase 2 of the redevelopment will see the marking out of new gaelic football and netball pitches. The cycling track will be upgraded whilst other current markings will be re-lined and colour enhanced.

  To finalise the project, an outdoor shop will be located in the junior playground that will enable a host of play based learning opportunities. Also, a brand new reading den will be constructed in the senior playground.

  These new developments will ensure that our children will have numerous opportunities at break and lunch time to engage in a host of meaningful play activities. They will also be utilised by every class for various learning undertakings.

  

• Pupil of the Month - April

  This morning our Pupil of the Month winners were acknowledged at assembly. It was great to hear each class teacher talk so highly of all the recipients, highlighting the deserving reasons as to why these pupils won their awards.

• Principal’s Award

  Cailie from P2 was in ecstatic form this morning after receiving this week’s Principal’s Award.

  Cailie is a great friend to everyone. She has exemplary manners and always has a smile on her face. She has a flair for Art and brings this creativity to all areas of the curriculum. She has shown fantastic perseverance and a great attitude to problem solving in Numeracy. She is an excellent role model to all in the P2 class!

• School Assembly

  For the first time since March 2020 we were able to host our school assembly in the hall this morning. Outdoor assemblies and weekly online versions had taken precedence during the pandemic but everyone was delighted today to finally get back to a sense of normality.

  

• After School Club Gaelic Football

  Fri 29 Apr 2022

  Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte was the venue this afternoon for the first of our Term 3 After School Club Gaelic Football sessions with Mr Fitzsimons.

  A superb turnout of players enjoyed an hour of exercises, drills and games as we prepare for the upcoming Cumann na mBunscol matches along with scheduled blitzes and tournaments.

• Ruadhán’s Charity Challenge

  P3 pupil Ruadhán is currently running a mile a day in April to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Today his classmates joined him at the GAA pitch to help him complete his 29th mile of the month for what is an extremely worthy charitable cause.

  Well done to all the boys and girls for showing great teamwork and support for Ruadhán. Thank you is extended to Ruadhán’s mum Claire who also provided treats and refreshments after the exertions.

• Daily Mile 10th Anniversary

  All the pupils and staff of Sacred Heart P.S. took part in the 10th anniversary walk for the Daily Mile. Dundrum village came alive to the stomping feet of our collective as the lanes, roads and streets of our area all got a pounding by the eager walkers.

  Everyone converged on Murray’s Green for some refreshments in the form of ice lollies and a much needed relaxing rest after the walk. Well done to you all for your enthusiasm and full participation!

• Wee Critters

  Wee Critters is a mobile and interactive animal education service. Allan the Explorer came to our school on Wednesday to take the P1 to P4 classes on a wild adventure whilst introducing them to his amazing animal friends along the way!
