The children in P6&7 are currently receiving a six week block of sessions on improving emotional well being and resilience from Andy from YMCA Lisburn. They are covering topics such as dealing with emotions, kindness in action, asking for help and improving confidence and self esteem. It promises to very beneficial to pupils’ holistic development.
Anti Bullying week will be celebrated this incoming week in school- the theme is Change Starts With Us. In essence, making small changes through informing adults straight away when misdemeanour occurs, complementing friends, encouraging others to join in & being positive about other people can go a long way to eliminate bullying behaviour. We want the children to wear odd socks this Tuesday 12th Nov to celebrate individuality and the fact that we are all different.
Pupils in P5-7 participated in a Sentinus Robotics Roadshow where they worked in teams of two to complete a number of different tasks. Their main task was to navigate (through programming) their Boebot Car around the Sentinus ‘track’ successfully (taking into consideration complications such as roundabouts, bends in the road and traffic lights.)
Pupils were responsible for the creation of their own programme using specialist software which they coded on their laptop and then downloaded this code to the Boebot Car.
Time equaled distance in this task and it was up to each team to think logically, problem solve and code/ programme their way to the finish. It was a truly fantastic learning experience enjoyed by all.
The boys and girls from Sacred Heart PS participated in a ‘just for fun’ non competitive Football Blitz. They really enjoyed a busy morning of football, playing many schools from the local Downpatrick Area. As always, they were very skilful, hardworking and showed excellent sportsmanship throughout- great representatives of their school!
Maths Week
Maths week concluded with Friday’s Mental Maths Assembly- great knowledge was shown of the four rules of number by all classes. Throughout the week children participated in various maths related challenges, activities & games showing impressive skill development in problem solving & mental maths strategies. Thanks to parents for their support of homework tasks and attendance at Assembly.
Photographed is the P6/7 class using the new Maths IZak 9 resource, a fun and engaging 27 piece puzzle cube which encourages consolidation of a wide range of number and problem solving skills.
