Six teams battled it out at a resplendid Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte this morning at the 4th Annual Jarlath Carey Memorial Tournament.
Each team played each other once with St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville and St Francis’ P.S. Drumaroad advancing to the Cup final, St Macartan’s P.S. Loughinisland and Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum progressing to the Shield decider and St Michael’s P.S. Finnis and St Nicholas’ P.S. Ardglass venturing forward to an exhibition game.
For the 2nd year in a row St Joseph’s P.S. Carnacaville clinched the Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup after a hard earned win over a very game St Francis’ P.S. Drumaroad side. Sacred Heart P.S. were aiming for their third Dundrum GAC Shield success in succession but they were denied by a gallant St Macartan’s P.S. team who won by a point to take the honours.
Well done to our winners and all of our participating teams. Thanks goes to our three referees, Katie-Louise Poland, Evan Stone and Caragh Ferris along with Kaylee Poland for officiating and assisting with logistics. To club secretary Christine Cummins for presenting the Dundrum GAC Shield and to Cliodhna and Martin Carey for representing their family in the presentation of the Jarlath Carey Memorial Cup.

The weather held firm as we hosted a successful Sports Day at Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte. Obstacle course, egg and spoon race, sack race, sprint, long run, tug o’ war, penalty shootout competition, staff bean bag challenge, parent races, Young at Heart races and the egg toss were all part of an action packed schedule. Well done to everyone for their full participation!
Thanks goes to Dundrum GAC for the use of their grounds for the event, parent Jonathan McMullan for his assistance along with The Corner Flag, Roadside Catch and ActiSport for being present as well.
On the 2nd August, Mr Doyle, along with 24 other club members, will embark on a legendary hike from Dundrum GAC to the peak of Slieve Donard and back again. All funds raised will be going towards club development.
Everyone at Sacred Heart P.S. are fully behind Mr Doyle and today at Sports Day, some of our pupils helped him launch his fundraising campaign.
Please follow the link: https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/AaronDoyle576 to support the cause. Some of the proceeds will also be going toward MYMY and the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team.
Thank you.

Kasia P5
This pupil has truly blossomed in so many areas of school life. She has made fantastic progress in her handwriting and presentation and her drawings are always full of creativity and beautifully coloured. Her artistic flair shines through in everything that she does.
Her reading and spelling have come on in leaps and bounds and she has become noticeably more independent and only asks for help when she really needs it. She’s confident in class, putting her hand up to ask thoughtful questions and showing great improvement in turn-taking.
One thing that often amazes Mr Doyle is her sophisticated vocabulary. She regularly uses complex words and always in the correct context, which shows just how much she’s growing as a communicator.
Kasia is a real social butterfly, bringing warmth and positivity to the classroom with her kind words and brilliant ideas. Her friendship group continues to grow as she is thoughtful and caring towards everyone, especially when it comes to animals and the environment. She often shares insightful ideas about how we can look after our planet.
Recently, she has also made a big effort in P.E., getting involved in Gaelic and really enjoying swimming. She’s a valued member of the Sacred Heart community and truly lives out our school motto: Striving for Greatness Together.
Well done Kasia!
Everyone threw themselves back into school life after our mid-term break last week. There was lots happening in Sacred Heart P.S. over these last four days and it all culminates tomorrow with our annual sports day.
This morning we recognised our Pupil of the Week recipients who have contributed magnificently to school in different ways this week. Well done to Leena P1, Dann P2, Liam P3, Jake P4, Annie P5, Adam P6 and Delilah P7!
Aleks from Table Tennis Ulster visited school today to deliver a taster session for all of our pupils. Everyone got so much out of it with lots of enjoyment and perfecting skills to the fore. We look forward to Aleks coming to school in Term 1.1. of the 2025/2026 academic year to deliver a table tennis After School Club.

Rebecca P5, Ronan P5, Catarina P6, Jessie our classroom assistant and Miss Byrne represented Sacred Heart P.S. with great pride today at the Scoil Spreagtha celebration event in Ulster University, Belfast.
This special occasion brought together schools from across the North to champion the incredible efforts being made to promote the use of the Irish language in everyday school life. The event featured a range of activities, including ceol (music), machnamh (mindfulness) and even a lively game of Bingo Loco!
We are delighted to have been awarded the status of a Scoil Spreagtha for the second year in succession. Credit to Miss Byrne for leading this initiative and to all of our children and staff for their advancement of our native language in Sacred Heart P.S.
Is Scoil Spreagtha muid!

P1 learned all about the role of a fisherman today as part of their World Around Us topic, ‘Under the Sea.’ They headed over to the beach and discovered how oysters are farmed, thanks to our local fishermen, Paul and Sean.
The children learned that oysters are grown in special mesh bags which are placed in the sea and regularly checked as they grow. Once mature, the oysters are carefully collected and prepared for market. The class also had the chance to explore the tools used in oyster farming and even got to sit on Paul and Sean’s trailer!

The members of our Student Council, Eco-Council and Digital Leader teams went for an end of year trip to the Lisburn Omniplex today. Bowling was the name of the game and after everyone enjoyed some friendly competitiveness, a lovely lunch was put on for all in attendance.
The boys and girls from these three entities within Sacred Heart P.S. were democratically elected by their peers at the start of the school year to their respective roles. They’ve been involved in initiatives, idea generation, fundraising, activities, advocating, organisation and representation.
Thank you to Eco-Council convenor Miss Crozier and Student Council/Digital Leaders’ co-ordinator Mr McCartan for organising the excursion.
