• First Aid Training

  P6 and P7 learned some vital life skills as they recently undertook Junior Medic First Aid training.

  The boys and girls were led through a number of areas including staying safe and spotting hazards, calling 999, bandaging, dealing with unconscious casualties, the recovery position, CPR, choking sequences, introduction to defibrillators, why we use defibrillators, how to use a defibrillator and hands on practice.

  Life skills in relation to First Aid are vitally important and we now have a cohort of pupils who are equipped with a range of competencies in this particular sphere.

  

• Netball Blitz

  The netball team travelled to Newcastle to participate in a tournament hosted by St. Mary's P.S. The girls had a great time, playing some very competitive matches against a number of other schools. A huge thank you to St. Mary's P.S. for inviting us and being great hosts.

  

• Chester’s Challenge

  Chester’s Challenge is a fun, interactive three session health promotion and education programme that Miss Crozier’s P6/P7 class are currently undertaking as part of their ‘Human Body’ WAU topic.

  Featuring the Chester monkey character, Chester’s Challenge is adapted to tie in with the curriculum, with workshops focusing on healthy eating, keeping active, screen time and sleep.

  

• LGFA Success

  Our classroom assistant Alice McAlea brought the O’Hare Cup (Ulster LGFA IFC) into school today. Alice won the title along with her Down team mates after a superb win over Monaghan on Sunday in Clones.

  The cup done a tour of every class and even made it over to Young at Heart who also enjoyed the celebrations.

• Principal’s Award P4

  Rosie-Leigh P4

  This pupil has shown exceptional dedication and hard work in every lesson. Her reading skills have significantly improved, particularly in summarising and predicting. Her handwriting is excellent and she consistently demonstrates great concentration in all tasks.

  This pupil is not only a helpful and confident student who readily participates in class discussions but she also possesses remarkable dramatic skills. Her lovely manners and kindness towards others, especially her patience towards younger children, are truly commendable.

  Congratulations Rosie-Leigh on being ready for Primary 5! Your hard work and wonderful attitude makes you a deserving recipient of this award. You are a shining star in our school. Keep up the great work!

• Bishop Visit

  Fri 24 May 2024

  Tuesday 4th June will see our new Bishop, Alan McGuckian, visit the Parish of Dundrum and Tyrella to conduct a special Mass. Both ourselves and St Joseph’s P.S. Tyrella will be in attendance along with all the parishioners for the service at 10am.

• McCashin Shield Winners

  Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum became the inaugural winners of the McCashin Shield at today’s tournament in Tadgh Barry Memorial Park, Ballykinlar.

  The competition saw eight local schools come together to play in a 7-a-side format.

  Sacred Heart P.S. defeated St Francis P.S. Drumaroad, St Caolan’s P.S. Darragh Cross and St Mary’s P.S. Killyleagh to top their group unbeaten.

  St Joseph’s P.S. Tyrella, the hosts, also topped their group that included St Mary’s P.S. Dunsford, St Michael’s P.S. Finnis and Christ the King P.S. Drumaness.

  The final pitted two schools from the same parish against each other. After a titanic battle, refereed by Down senior team manager Conor Laverty, Sacred Heart P.S. emerged victors over St Joseph’s P.S. Tyrella by the slenderest of margins to capture the McCashin Shield.

  Well done to the panel that included captain Kasey, Cara, Ronan, Christopher, Beth, Daniel, Emily and Charlie!

• Cricket Sessions

  Representatives from Dundrum Cricket Club kickstarted the first of our four training sessions with the opening one taking place yesterday. This will all culminate in the local schools’ competition that will be held in June. A highly enjoyable workout for everyone!
