Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Mr Doyle’s P4 class are currently exploring the instructional writing genre in class. To aid their learning with this style, they headed to the De La Salle High School in Downpatrick today for a hugely beneficial workshop.
The P4’s were welcomed to the Home Economics department by Mrs Irene Stokes who was assisted by some Year 12 boys. The Sacred Heart P.S. boys and girls got to make cup cakes by following the step by step instructions that were provided.
They were then treated to pizza for lunch as well as getting to eat the delicious cup cakes that they made! A mini raffle was held with three of the pupils winning chocolate Santa’s. An informative and enjoyable outing all round.
Thank you goes to Mr Doyle for organising, De La Salle High School for their welcome and hospitality along with their staff member and Sacred Heart P.S. governor and parent Mrs Claire McGuigan for her help on the day.
Just after lunch today, Santa landed at Young at Heart to make a quick visit to all the boys and girls.
The children were full of excitement as they told him what all they wanted for Christmas. From scooters to bikes with stabilisers to purple handbags! The list was extensive.
The boys and girls all received a gift from Santa before they performed a fantastic Christmas song. Santa bade farewell to everyone before setting off back to the North Pole with his reindeer!
Santa made a surprise visit to Sacred Heart P.S. this morning!
Much to the delight of all the boys and girls, he emerged from the freezing fog before making his way to the magic grotto in our igloo.
Everyone in the school got a special present and a chance to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas, before he disappeared into thin air and back to the North Pole.
Across the North of Ireland, there has been a rise in flu like illnesses with school children these past few weeks. Levels of sickness in Sacred Heart P.S. have been slightly higher than normal too. The Public Health Agency sent out correspondence yesterday evening giving details on scarlet fever.

Scarlet fever
Scarlet fever is a relatively common childhood illness. The symptoms of scarlet fever in the early stages can be non-specific and may include sore throat, headache, fever, nausea and vomiting. After 12 to 48 hours a characteristic red, generalised pinhead rash develops, typically first appearing on the chest and stomach, rapidly spreading to other parts of the body, giving the skin a sandpaper-like texture. On more darkly-pigmented skin, the scarlet rash may be harder to spot, although the sandpaper feel should be present.
Prompt treatment with appropriate antibiotics significantly reduces the risk of complications. So, we encourage parents who suspect their child has scarlet fever to seek medical advice from their GP. Children with a diagnosis of scarlet fever should not attend school for a minimum period of 24 hours after starting appropriate antibiotic treatment and they should feel well enough to return to school.

There is a lot of misinformation circulating on social media regarding current health issues so we as a school will ensure that only advice/information from the Public Health Agency will be circulated on our platforms.
The school office (437 51293) needs to be contacted to inform of any children that are off due to sickness.
Thank you.
