Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Sports Day will take place this coming Friday (18th June) from 10am to 2pm at the GAA pitch.
Children are to come to school in their PE gear at the normal time. School dinners will operate with a special lunch pack being made available. The pack will contain a burger, yoghurt, bun and bottle of water. Those children who won't be availing of this can bring their own packed lunch.
Children in Young at Heart are to attend from 12noon to 2pm at the pitch. Parents are welcome to stay for the duration or can alternatively pick their child up at 2pm. Please provide your child with lunch as usual.
Parents/carers and family members are welcome to attend the event. The Tin Can food van will be available onsite for the purchase of lunches. Mitigating COVID measures will be in place such as social distancing, wearing of face coverings, as well as good hand and respiratory hygiene practices.
We look forward to a fun day on Friday!
Thanks.
Following information relayed by the Education Minister yesterday, we are now in a position to welcome parents/carers and family members to our annual school sports day on Friday 18th June.
The event will take place from 10am to 2pm at the GAA pitch. Mitigating COVID measures will be in place such as social distancing, wearing of face coverings, as well as good hand and respiratory hygiene practices.
Most of the Northern Hempishere got to witness a solar eclipse this morning. The moon moved across the face of the sun but did not completely block the light coming from it. Instead, there was just a thick silver of brilliance left to shine around the Sun’s disc.
Mr Fitzsimons’ class joined Mr Doyle’s class at the GAA pitch just after 11am to witness this event. Some members of the P7 class brought specially approved eclipse glasses with them. These were then used by everyone to spectate.
Such a great experience!
As part of the school’s continued investment in literacy and numeracy support initiatives, staff underwent training yesterday in relation to the new Toe by Toe programme that will be rolled out from September 2021 in Sacred Heart P.S.
Toe By Toe is a small red book designed for anyone who finds reading difficult. This includes weak readers who struggle to decode or those with dyslexic difficulties. Pupils make progress by the tiniest steps – one toe at a time. However, even though the steps taken are small, students can clearly measure progress right from the first page. Confidence and self-esteem are boosted as a result.
Many thanks to our SENCO Miss Laura Murray for organising the training and to Mr Bill Lynch for facilitating it.

Our P7’s had a fantastic time at their end of year trip to Let’s Go Hydro. The boys and girls all thoroughly enjoyed everything that the resort had to offer. Thanks goes to the staff members who attended with the children. They had a great time as well!
The P7’s will now prepare for their Leavers’ Ceremony on Friday 25th June as they bring their time in Sacred Heart P.S. to an end.
Yesterday the school welcomed back past pupil Cormac Venney and his team from HIP Psychology into the P7 class for a Transitions Workshop.
This is the last month in Sacred Heart P.S. for the boys and girls in Mr Doyle’s class. The workshop focussed on moving schools and the different changes to be expected from primary to post primary education.
It was a very beneficial learning experience for the class. We thank HIP for providing this opportunity and for the delivery of the content.
This morning POSH chairperson Shauna McMullan presented our P7 class with their specially designed ‘Class of 2021’ Leavers Jumpers. POSH very generously funded this purchase.
The P7’s now have a lovely keepsake to remember their time in Sacred Heart PS by. They also can’t wait to wear them to their end of year trip to Let’s Go Hydro on Monday!
