• School Football

  Well done to our fantastic footballers from Sacred Heart PS who represented their school proudly when they took on the mighty St Joseph’s PS Carnacaville in a recent football match. Both our boys and girls played with real skill, determination and sportsmanship. The boys were excellent and emerged victorious by a narrow margin and the girls were also excellent battling hard but were up against a strong team from St Joseph’s who ultimately prevailed. We look forward to participating in upcoming football fixtures in the near future.

  

• 100 Days of School Celebration

  The 100 Days of School Celebration was held yesterday in school. The children recognised being 100 days smarter having learned many important skills, concepts, facts and figures. Maths skills aplenty were on display in our Maths Bee Competition. Well done to the winners in P3-7 classes; P3 Lorcan Smith, P4 Oisin Carr, P5 Martin Cunningham, P6 Liam Byrne and P7 Daniel McAlea! We are very proud of them all! A special mention and well done to Mr Ryan Ross who won the Parent Competition! Thanks also to parents /family members for assisting pupils with 100 Days @ School Projects- your efforts are greatly appreciated & ensured a fantastic day at school. • Parental & Community Classes

  As we are very keen to equip our parents with the necessary skills to develop their children within the home setting there will be another Parental Resilience to Stress Workshop for parents on Monday 10th February from 6.30pm-7.45pm. Mrs Eva McAlea will deliver this session and it is open to parents and other members of the school community. Please contact the office to confirm your attendance or Eva Mc Alea on 07793005815.
  Miss Murray will deliver a Phonics Workshop (teaching children to spell) on Thursday 13th February from 3pm-4pm. Please confirm your place with Carmel- children are very welcome to attend the Afterschool Programme for the duration. It promises to be very informative in providing parents with an overview of the key spelling strategies used across the school and will be practical and fun based. Refreshments will be provided on arrival.
  Local Artist Jennifer Cunningham continues to provide free of charge Art Classes on a Monday evening for community members from 7pm-8pm. Feel free to come along or contact the school office for further details.

• SENTINUS STEAM WORKSHOP

                             SENTINUS STEAM WORKSHOP
  
  In the STEAM task on Tuesday P5-7 pupils worked in teams of 3 to make a bridge from paper which was structurally stable enough to support a 1kg weight (a bag of sugar) for 30 seconds.
  Pupils were then shown how to make sheets of paper stronger by using mandrels to roll them into ‘roll tubes’. These roll tubes then had holes punched in each end so that they could be attached together using plastic rivets which are essentially plastic nuts and bolts. Pupils soon realised the importance of having roll tubes of the same size on opposite sides of the bridge. Pupils also arranged their roll tubes into triangular shapes to support their bridge as triangles are the strongest weight bearing shape. All pupils had success with their bridges and worked very well in their teams. It was great to have our friends from St Mary’s Dunsford in attendance!

• Shared Education Workshops with Knockevin Early Years & Special School

  The P1 and the P3/4 class are really enjoying working with Knockevin Early Years Centre & Special School. P1 participated in a Play Based Learning Workshop on construction and P3/4 participated in a Scientific Investigation on forces in which they created and tested their own toy cars. We look forward to further learning with our partner school in the coming weeks ahead.

  

• Ditch the Dark Day

  Ditch the Dark Day will take place next Friday 24^th January. Children are encouraged to walk, cycle and scoot to school whilst wearing bright and reflective clothing to ensure they are visible to all road users. Thanks to the Eco Council who delivered a presentation to the rest of the school at Friday's Assembly to promote the event. Please encourage your child to participate!
   

  

• Green Screen Technology in P1

• Parental Stress Resilience Workshop

  Parental Workshop & PoSH Meeting
  
  There will be a Parental Resilience to Stress Workshop on Thursday 16th January 6.45pm-8pm. This session will be delivered by Cormac Venney HiPerformance. The session will be practical and fun based- refreshments will be provided. PoSH meeting will be held beforehand from 6pm-6.45pm in the Mobile Classroom- all very welcome at both the workshop and PoSH Meeting.

  PoSH Raffle

   

  Many thanks to PoSH for organising a fantastic Christmas Raffle for school funds with approx. £1000 raised (before expenses) and to all who bought tickets and supported the raffle.

   

  Special Mention

  PoSH in partnership with school leadership were successful in their most recent grant application for 16 Apple iPad 6s and also raised £500 through the Santa Sunday Fundraiser on Sunday 1st December. This brings autumn/winter fundraising  to approx. £5500. Sacred Heart PS is extremely fortunate to have a such a proactive PTA who continually go over and above to fundraise in the aim to improve educational resources for our wonderful children!
