Peter and Gavin from the Newcastle division of the Fire and Rescue Service visited P5 today for a wonderfully informative session.
The boys and girls had the issue of fire safety in the home highlighted to them as well as the importance of having smoke alarms tested on a regular basis. Everyone got to learn about what a firefighter does as well as getting to try on all of their work clothing and apparatus.
To finish the session off, Mr Fitzsimons and Cora were challenged to get bedecked in the full firefighter’s uniform within a time limit. The average time for a fireman to do this in the Newcastle station is 30 seconds. Mr Fitzsimons done it in 29 seconds. A time he was rightly proud of!
