Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Sacred Heart P.S. were fully participant in National Coding Week 2021. Using the vast range of coding based equipment and resources that we have here in school, the boys and girls got to experience a wide range of coding activities and challenges.
Beebot robots were used for sequencing, estimation, problem solving and just having fun!
Scratch was enjoyed as the children got to program their own interactive stories, games and animations. Thinking creatively, reasoning systematically and working collaboratively were skills built upon.
The Spheros were a great tool for creating the outline of shapes, programming the ‘bots to navigate a maze and even for a game of football!
Some classes also engaged with Lightbot. A very entertaining game app whose mechanics require using programming logic to solve levels.
One class thought outside the box and completed some offline coding tasks. Here, the basic principles of metacognition, problem solving and abstract thinking were all to the fore.

This school year 2021/22 will see a new format for our monthly school newsletter. It will now be in an online format, utilising Microsoft Sway.
This week, the boys and girls from P1 to P7 got involved in some healthy competition to see who could come up with the name of our new newsletter.
There were a lot of tremendous suggestions but the winning name came from a collective effort from the P4 class. We are now proud to announce that the first edition of ‘Heart Beat’ will be launched on Thursday 30th September!
One of the most anticipated dates in the school calendar is Roald Dahl Day. Today, the boys and girls in Sacred Heart P.S. thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the annual event with a host of fun activities.
P1 partook in a read/listen through of a Roald Dahl short story whilst also learning about the author himself. P2 completed some excellent writing on the Roly-Poly Bird whilst P3 got mightily creative with the beastly Enormous Crocodile. P4 enjoyed creating Mr Twit’s beard from The Twits while P5 designed and made Dahl-tastic juice cartons. P6/P7 doubled up with Keynote presentations on the life and times of Roald Dahl as well conducting a scientific experiment inspired by George’s Marvellous Medicine!

P1
The brilliant P1’s had a very busy week. They enjoyed a trip down to the beach as everyone went equipped with buckets and spades! Play Based Learning was a big aspect of their five days while everyone took great enjoyment and learning from the Literacy and Numeracy rotations.
P2
It was a tremendously active week for the P2’s. In Art they created sunflowers inspired by the man himself, Vincent Van Gogh. The sunflowers were made using real sunflower seeds! There was fun with the parachute in PE while the outdoor area was used for Numeracy and Phonics games. In preparation for Roald Dahl Day on Monday, the class wrote about the Roly Poly bird. To top the week off, the Bee Bots made an appearance during ICT.
P3
This week P3 focussed on the story "The Day the Crayon Quit." They wrote letters, created pictograms on their favourite colour, went on a shape hunt, counted to 50 and carried out a colour experiment. They had lots of outdoor fun and also learned about road safety.
P4
It was a busy week of planting for the P4’s. Parsley, thyme and daffodil bulbs were all installed in our planting beds. Measuring was the primary theme in Numeracy as the whole school estate was used for this purpose. In ICT, great fun was had with Garage Band while problem solving strategies were ongoing throughout the week.
P5
The P5’s spent a large chunk of their week on PDMU exercises. Describing themselves and others was one particular task that raised everyone’s self awareness! PE sessions at the GAA pitch on Tuesday and multi sports on Thursday kept everyone active and energised.
P6/7
This week the class started to read their new class book “Kaspar, Prince of Cats” and used their inference skills to design book covers. They also started their new topic, 'The Titanic.' The class focused on the structure and features of the Titanic and finished their week off by replicating these using Minecraft Education. In Numeracy they were focussing on understanding the place value of numbers. They also looked at finding the perimeter of composite shapes with missing lengths. The P6/7’s took their learning outside and used metre rulers to accurately measure shapes.
