Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
The 2020/21 school year came to a close today as we finished up for our summer holidays.
What a year it has been! A return to face to face teaching followed by a Lockdown and periods of Remote Learning before going back to the classroom in Term 3.
Our children have been magnificent throughout it all. They have faced challenges head on and come out stronger at the other end. A big acknowledgment goes to our parents and family members for their support and partnership during the school year. Gratitude is relayed as well to all those in our school community who continue to assist and support us in any way possible. Let us not forget too the staff of SHPS for their dedication and commitment to the education of our children.
I would like to wish you all a very safe and enjoyable summer break!
Mr Fitzsimons.
This morning our P7 pupils said a fond farewell to Sacred Heart P.S. as their Leavers’ Ceremony took place. It was an emotional yet uplifting event as the Class of 2021 made a memorable exit.
Each child received special individual awards with the Q&A and Leavers’ video productions being particular highlights.
A huge thanks goes to Mr Doyle for all the preparation and work that went into the ceremony. Special praise is also reserved for our classroom assistant Kathleen for her sterling efforts.
To the P7 boys and girls: you have been and were all amazing! We wish you all the very best of luck for the future. Remember, hold dear the memories of here and be proud to say that you went to Sacred Heart P.S.!
It has been a busy week for the boys and girls of Young at Heart.
On Tuesday they attended the SHPS Sports Day medal presentations where they were all given special gold medals in recognition of their participation last week at the event.
Then on Friday they had a Teddy Bear’s Picnic before the big graduation ceremony took place.
Well done to you all!
We would also like to thank Brennan’s shop for their very kind donation of ice cream and drinks. It was greatly appreciated.
Due to the rise in COVID cases in the wider area, tomorrow night's POSH/Dundrum GAC joint fundraising quiz has been postponed. Thank you.
Young at Heart Teddy Bear's Picnic will take place tomorrow at Dundrum Castle (12noon to 2pm).Children to be left and lifted from the castle car park. Lunch will be provided. Parents are welcome to stay.
This afternoon the children of Young at Heart and Sacred Heart P.S. gathered in their bubbles in the school yard for their Sports Day medal presentation.
The effort and enthusiasm of all the children was recognised with the first, second and third place winners given their medals too.
Well done boys and girls!
Friday 18th June saw the school host their annual Sports Day. What a day it was! The sun shone brightly as a large crowd of family and friends gathered at Páirc Seán Ó Caoilte to watch on as the boys and girls of Young at Heart and Sacred Heart P.S. took part in a fun packed range of events.
The now famous obstacle course kicked off the programme followed by the egg and spoon and sack races. After a morning break, the customised staff race entertained the crowd with the long throw competition also taking place. The sprints were scheduled and as ever, they produced some great finishes.
After lunch the go kart races drew huge interest with the Young at Heart sprint being a particular highlight. The long run showcased our distance runners with the dad and mum races gaining a record number of entries and competitiveness!
The day worked towards a close with the ever popular Tug of War. The egg toss followed and proved to be a great spectacle. The last event of the day was the penalty kick competition.
All in all, it was a most memorable Sports Day. It was great to see all our pupils participate and enjoy themselves so much. Thanks to all who attended to support the day. Thanks too goes to the school staff for their organisation and running of the event. It was great as well to have the Tin Can on site for food and refreshments.
Due to technical issues with our school printer, the individual end of year pupil reports that were due out today will now be sent home on Monday. Thank you.
