Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
As announced in correspondence that was sent to all parents on the 3/1/24, there will be a sacramental preparation meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) in the school hall at 3pm. This is a new initiative and has been organised by Canon Fleck. All parents/carers of P3's (Sacrament of Reconciliation), P4's (First Holy Communion) and P7 (Confirmation) are welcome to attend. This timing may not suit everyone but as ever we will keep all parents informed of any detail relating to the events moving forward.
Dates for the sacraments:
Sacrament of Reconciliation - Wednesday 20th March - 1pm
Confirmation - Thursday 16th May - 3pm
First Holy Communion - Saturday 25th May - 11am
Thanks.
We had a fantastic attendance today at our newly revamped After School GAA Club. A large turnout of children got a superb hour of coaching from Mr McCartan and our Dundrum GAC coaches Ruairi and Nichola.
We are also very grateful to an anonymous donor who has covered the cost of today’s GAA provision. This is mightily appreciated by all at Sacred Heart P.S. Parents of children who attended will be credited accordingly on SchoolMoney.
This past fortnight, an internal competition has been ran in school for each pupil to present their favourite Irish proverb in a design format. All classes submitted entries and the winners were chosen today namely Mairead P1, Jessica P2, Sophie P3, Darragh P4, Catarina P5, Darragh P6 and Kasey P7.
Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí!
Our Gaeilgeoir na Míosa for January is Paudie from P6. Paudie has a great command of our learned greetings and sayings in Irish and he uses them extensively during the school day. He engages in conversations As Gaelige with pupils and staff alike. He is an ardent believer in the language and encourages others around him to converse in Cúpla Focail.
Rebecca P4
It's wonderful to share this pupil's achievements and positive attitude towards her learning. Her consistent presence at school with a smile and enthusiasm is commendable. Rebecca is never late and rarely misses a day off school. Her school work and homeworks are always completed to the best of her ability.
It's especially impressive that Rebecca has excelled in her reading, particularly in the use of expression, summarising the story and making sensible predictions in regards to characters and events. She enjoys Numeracy and will always achieve the learning objective within each lesson by following the methods and strategies taught by Mr Doyle to solve each problem correctly.
Rebecca has good organisational skills and shows a great ability to listen to and follow her teacher's instructions. Additionally her active participation in various extra-curricular activities, including Gaelic, Karate and Irish Dancing, showcases her well-roundedness and success outside of the classroom.
Rebecca's qualities as a good friend are shown by her kindness, use of good manners, patience and honesty. Congratulations to her for her outstanding achievements and positive impact on her classmates.
Well done!
A massive congratulations goes to our school team who won the Credit Union Schools’ Quiz this morning.
Held in the Parish Centre in Castlewellan, Sacred Heart P.S. were up against some really stiff opposition but having led after the first few rounds, they never relinquished their lead as they went on to become champions. Last year’s winners St Patrick’s P.S. Hilltown were 2nd with St Malachy’s P.S. Castlewellan 3rd.
Christopher, Elliot, Charlie and April now go forward to the provincial final with the time, date and venue to be confirmed in the coming week.
Well done!
Every Friday from now until the end of the June, we will be having our ever popular After School GAA Club from 2pm to 3pm. It is open to all boys and girls from P1 to P7. Mr McCartan will be leading these sessions and we are delighted to announce that Dundrum GAC will now be providing two coaches on a rotational weekly basis to support the coaching provision. This is a fantastic development and will enable more focused coaching and games, catering for all age groups and abilities.
The 2pm to 3pm slot is only £2 for the session and as ever is payable on School Money. The new arrangements kick into place from tomorrow (Friday) onwards.

Michael and Aimee from Sport Changes Life were back in Sacred Heart P.S. today to begin their ten week Honour Roll Programme with P6 and P7.
This programme combines a wide variety of sports and team building activities with discussions and workshops focused on important topics such as transitioning to secondary school, our hopes and fears, staying safe online, goal setting and much more.
The children had a fun filled and interactive first session and are looking forward to the next nine weeks.
As part of Catholic Schools’ Week 2024, today we celebrated Grandparents’ Day. Canon Fleck led a beautiful Mass in which all of our school attended along with our grandparents, family members and parishioners.
Afterwards in the school hall, everyone came up for tea, coffee and refreshments. Lovely cards and mementoes were exchanged between the children and their grandparents which marked this out as a special day for all.
