Literacy Bug Club
It is great to see lots of the boys and girls keeping on top of their reading during lockdown- well done to everyone! However, we would like to see more pupils engaging with our online reading scheme, 'The Literacy Bug Club' to boost their literacy skills before the summer.
For the month of June we will be giving a prize out to the person in each class who has made the overall best effort with their online reading. Remember to attempt all of the Bugs in each book to check your understanding and comprehension skills. We will name the winners on Friday the 19th June.
If you have misplaced and require login details for Literacy Bug Club you can contact me on adoyle622@c2kni.net
Good luck and happy reading!
Pentecost Sunday is celebrated 50 days after Easter. In 2020, it falls on May 31. This event is celebrated to commemorate the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Pentecost comes from 'pentekoste' which means fiftieth in Greek. The Christian holy day of Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks. These events are described in the book of Acts, which comes directly after the four Gospels.
Pentecost is regarded as the birth date of the Christian church, and was key in expanding the number of early Christian believers. In the UK, Pentecost is also called “Whitsunday” or “Whitsun”.

Week 7 - Meteorology week
This week we are meteorologists* - scientists that study the earths atmosphere, climate and weather! ☀️🌪🌧❄️
Why not give today's challenge a go and learn about the water cycle! 💦
📸Don't forget to show us how you get on.
*FUN FACT: Scientists that study Meteors are called Meteoricists, because the name Meteorologist was already taken! ☄️

I would like to offer a word of thanks from all the Staff for how both you and your children have engaged with Home Learning packs alongside Education City and Literacy Bug Club. It reaffirms and reflects the value and importance we collectively put on their education.
As a school community we are also very aware of the difficulties we are all facing at this time. We understand that you yourselves may also be working from home, have limited access to online learning and there may be other things within your family, which will rightly have priority at this time. We urge you to pace yourselves with us in all of this and not to feel overwhelmed.
The online learning is there to provide a structure, a reassurance and a connection with school life. I would ask you to not allow it to become a burden which has the potential to test your patience to the limit and add to the stress we are all under. It is designed to support and encourage us all.
In school when things are difficult we tell the children to stay calm; we reassure and go back to the task with fresh eyes and minds when we are ready to pick things up again. Please be reassured by the fact that this time will pass and we will go back to a new normal eventually.
Thank you to everyone who has shared photographs and messages- they are proudly displayed on our school Facebook page and website. We have really enjoyed seeing not only how children have been progressing with their tasks but also the many new skills they have acquired.
Please continue to check the class pages of the school website, https://www.sacredheartdundrum.co.uk/class-pages/ where we have uploaded some useful resources for you to assist with home learning. Pupils will be able to access the last set of packs under class pages from next Friday, 22nd May. I would encourage you to email teachers directly if you wish to have your child’s pack printed.
We will also continue to stay in touch with any updates or information on our school website and Facebook.
Take care and best wishes for the coming weeks.
Aaron Doyle
