Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Over the period of Lent, the children of Sacred Heart participated in the 40km for 40 Days Lenten Challenge.
We were delighted today to present a cheque for the total of £730 to Father Fleck on behalf of Trócaire.
This was a tremendous amount of money to raise for such a worthwhile charitable cause. Well done everybody!
The school participated in the Not So Big Spring Clean on Thursday past. Each class took part in a litter pick, focusing on different areas of our community.
We found many different items discarded around Dundrum, from bottles to socks. We were particularly shocked at the amount of plastic materials and rope that we discovered washed up on our shore. In total eight bags of waste were collected and we have been able to dispose of them properly.
It was a fantastic day had by all and it was encouraging to see the children so actively engaged and passionate about keeping their community clean. Well done to everyone involved!
PARISH VOLUNTEERS
There has been an announcement in the bulletin the last few weeks for new Parish volunteers. To date we have had no one step forward. Now coming out of Lockdown and with the churches reopened, we need even more volunteers. We are very grateful to those who have been there to read and count and clean and sing in years past, but these volunteers have been involved for years and it is time for some new faces.
The church is not the same with just a Parish Priest saying Mass. Readers telling us the stories from the Bible and Eucharist Ministers and faces welcoming us all to Mass whenever we attend. And God willing we will have singing in the church again soon!
We want the Parish here for years to come to celebrate our First Communions, Confirmations, Baptisms, and Weddings; however we only get out of it what we put in. Readings and Eucharist Ministry take place during Mass while we attend, so no additional time is required. Counting can happen in the evening or mornings. It can be arranged during a time that suits our volunteers, and usually only takes an hour every few weeks. COVID volunteers (ushers & track & trace) would only be required when the church opens 15 minutes prior to Mass.
We are asking pretty please, with a cherry on top even, for people to make just a little time for our church. We understand that a lot of people are still being quite cautious in our current COVID climate, but please get in contact if you would be willing to help out in the future. Thank you for your consideration!
Young at Heart, our joint Pre-School Afternoon Club between the Parish of Dundrum/Tyrella and Sacred Heart P.S. were delighted to welcome some Dundrum Development Association (DDA) members to their new outdoor area this afternoon.
The newly built zone includes an elevated seated reading area, an artificial grass section along with a play-based learning activity part.
The DDA gave substantial financial backing to the project and this contribution is appreciated by all stakeholders, none more so than the children at Young at Heart and Sacred Heart P.S. who will be availing of the new area.
We also thank contractor Bobby Murdock and his team for carrying out the development work.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
