Children have been learning all about the analogue clock. Today, they made their own using chalk and loose parts.
This week P1 have been learning how to tell the time to the hour. During play, they had fun making their own watches and also making times with our big clock outside.
P1 have been learning all about tens and ones. Today we used sticks to represent tens and stones to represent ones and created our own number lines from 10-20.
P1 have been learning about numbers to 20 and beyond. They explored this with numicon, ten frames, base 10 and through place value games on the IPADs.
We have been sorting odd and even numbers.
This week, children have been working on subtraction by counting backwards. Children worked in pairs to jump along their number lines in the sun!
3D shape activities- P1 enjoyed making patterns with the 3D shapes, playing 'guess who' and describing the properties of their shape, sensory investigation of 3D shapes (playdough and gelli) and through a 3D shape game on the IPADS.
3D shape hunt
P1 kicked off their new numeracy topic, 3D shapes, with an exciting trip to the beach. They explored the differences between 2D and 3D shapes and experimented with creating various shapes in the sand. The children demonstrated fantastic mathematical language and excellent teamwork skills.
Children explored capacity down at the beach using our new buckets and spades kindly purchased by POSH️
Counting On- P1 explored adding on a number line outside today by physically jumping and writing our sums in chalk.
We have been working on numbers to 9, children made their own snap games on ten frames, explored with numicon, ten frames and IPADs.
P1 enjoyed a new problem solving game in Maths. We wore headbands showing a number and had to describe it to our friends e.g I am one more than 7.
This week, we have been measuring using non-standard units e.g using cubes, sticks and bricks. Today, children measured different items outside using rulers. We had lots of discussion about what could be measured with a ruler.
Today P1 measured each other using bricks and then measured different things around our playground.
Children explored the concept of long and short through play. They made long and short chains with the links, long and short playdough snakes, ordered long and short caterpillars and played a long and short game on the IPAD.
We have been working on numbers 6 and 7 this week. Children explored this through ICT, numicon, subitising and sorting.
Children have been working on finding one more and one less through a range of play based activities- splat games, board games, activity mats and games on the IPAD.
We have been learning all about squares and rectangles. Children created shapes using geoboards, played a geoboard game on the IPAD, drew pictures with squares and rectangles and sorted the shapes.
P1 have been learning all about number bonds to 5. We have explored this through songs, numberblocks, numicon, ICT and ten frames.
Children have been exploring shape and identifying circles and triangles. Children played shape games on the IPADS, made pictures with circles and triangles, drew shapes on the magnetic boards, built with magnatiles and created patterns with numberblobs stampers.
Today children used loose parts to represent numbers 1,2,3. Children then used chalk to practise number formation of 1,2,3
Have a look at some of our practical activities focused on patterns.
Have a look at our sorting activities this week.
Linking in with our WAU topic, Autumn, we went on a nature walk and collected different types of leaves. We then sorted them by colour, shape, and size. Children continued this activity into PBL and thought of different criteria to sort by e.g big and small.
