P1 learned all about the role of a fisherman today as part of their World Around Us topic, ‘Under the Sea.’ They headed over to the beach and discovered how oysters are farmed, thanks to our local fishermen, Paul and Sean. 

The children learned that oysters are grown in special mesh bags which are placed in the sea and regularly checked as they grow. Once mature, the oysters are carefully collected and prepared for market. The class also had the chance to explore the tools used in oyster farming and even got to sit on Paul and Sean’s trailer!
