Presented to Hugh, Luke, James, Zain and Korey for their excellent behaviour and positive attitude during last week’s trip to Neary Nógs Chocolate Factory. They showed great manners, listened attentively to the factory’s story, and took part enthusiastically in all activities, even trying the high‑percentage chocolate! They asked and answered questions sensibly, took turns, lined up perfectly, and represented our school proudly throughout the visit

*** ASPIRE Earth Day ***

Miss McConville’s P6/P7 class were delighted to welcome their friends from Knockevin to Sacred Heart P.S. yesterday for a special Earth Day themed ASPIRE event. The day focused on promoting friendship, inclusion and collaboration while encouraging pupils to think carefully about how they can care for and protect the environment.

Pupils from both schools worked together in mixed groups, taking part in a range of engaging activities linked to sustainability, recycling and protecting our planet. Through discussion, teamwork and creative tasks, the children shared ideas, built new friendships and developed their understanding of how small actions can have a positive impact on the world around us. 

It was a very enjoyable and meaningful day for everyone involved, reflecting the strong values of the ASPIRE programme.

*** St Louis G.S. Kilkeel GAA Tournament Shield Winners ***

The boys of Sacred Heart P.S. captured the Shield at the annual St Louis G.S. Kilkeel GAA Tournament today.

Pitted in a tough group with eventual Cup winners St Bronagh’s P.S. Rostrevor, Cup runners up St Columban’s P.S. Kilkeel and Gaelscoil na mBeann, Cill Chaoil, the Dundrum players put in a serious shift, finishing third in the section. Progressing to the Shield, the team had a straightforward semi final victory before they once again faced Gaelscoil na mBeann, Cill Chaoil, in the Shield final. Leading 1-06 to 1-01 at halftime, the Dundrum side maintained a strong work ethic in the 2nd half which ended up in a 3-07 to 2-03 success.

A massive well done goes to the team for a thoroughly heartening day of football. Captain for the occasion Ruadhán proudly received the Shield from St Louis G.S. Vice Principal Mr McGlew at the presentation. The panel that represented Sacred Heart P.S. was Declan Óg, Cahal, Casey, Adam, Eoin, Ronan, Ruadhán, Austin, Seth and Noah. Thanks again goes to Dundrum GAC Coaching Officer Ruairi McGuigan for taking the team and for his ongoing work with the footballers in our school.

*** P4/P5 Trip to Neary Nógs ***

Mr Doyle’s P4/P5 class enjoyed an engaging and educational trip to Neary Nógs Chocolate Makers as part of their World Around Us topic on Chocolate. The visit provided pupils with a valuable opportunity to see first‑hand how chocolate is made, from raw ingredients to the finished product, bringing their classroom learning to life.

During the visit, the children learned about where cocoa beans come from, how they are processed, and the journey chocolate takes before it reaches the shops. Pupils were introduced to key stages of chocolate production and gained an understanding of the care, skill and equipment involved in creating high‑quality handmade chocolate. 

The experience helped deepen their knowledge of food production, materials, and change—key elements of their topic.

The class showed great enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent behaviour throughout the trip. They asked thoughtful questions, listened carefully to explanations, and fully engaged in the activities on offer. The highlight for many pupils was seeing the chocolate-making process up close and, of course, sampling some delicious chocolate at the end of the visit.

This trip was a fantastic example of learning beyond the classroom, supporting the World Around Us curriculum while also encouraging teamwork, real‑world understanding, and active learning. A big thank you to the staff at Neary Nógs for warmly welcoming the class and making it such an enjoyable and memorable experience.

Jasper P1 

Jasper is a great boy who comes to class with a positive attitude and is growing in confidence when trying new things. He has worked very hard on his reading and writing and has made excellent progress. He is also becoming more independent in his work. 

Jasper is very articulate and enjoys sharing his ideas and stories with the class. He is also a valued member of the Student Council. He is a keen scientist and particularly enjoyed monitoring and watching the chicks hatch. His behaviour has been very positive, and he listens carefully during carpet time, showing good focus and concentration. 

Jasper is kind and thoughtful towards others and is always willing to help his classmates. He is a friendly and sociable boy who really enjoys playing with his friends. He is a valued member of our school!
