** Accelerated Reader Certificate Winners **

We are delighted to recognise our Accelerated Reader certificate winners, celebrating pupils who have shown excellent commitment to reading and have worked hard to achieve their reading targets.

The Accelerated Reader programme encourages regular, independent reading and supports pupils in developing comprehension, vocabulary, and a lifelong love of books. Earning a certificate is a fantastic achievement and reflects consistent effort, focus, and determination.

What this award recognises:

- Regular and sustained reading at an appropriate level
- Strong understanding of texts through successful quiz completion
- A positive attitude towards reading both in school and at home
- Commitment to personal reading goals

Our certificate winners have shown great responsibility in choosing books, perseverance in completing them, and confidence in discussing what they have read. Their efforts are helping to build strong reading habits that will benefit them across all areas of learning.

*** Gaeligeoir na Míosa ***

Comhghairdeas Annie (P6) who has been awarded Gaeilgeoir na Míosa for April.

Gaeilgeoir na Míosa (Irish Speaker of the Month) is a much‑loved award in our school. It encourages pupils to use Irish throughout the school day and celebrates those who make a special effort to speak the language at every opportunity.

Annie has shown great enthusiasm and commitment to improving her Irish, using the language confidently and positively in daily school life. This award recognises her hard work and dedication to keeping Gaeilge alive in our school community.

Jake - P6

Jake is wonderful pupil who brings so much joy to the Miss McConville’s classroom. He is kind, helpful and has a great sense of humour which makes everyone in the class smile! Jake knows how to entertain others in a positive way and helps make the classroom a fun, happy place to be.  

Jake has also shown excellent work in the current maths topic of angles. This week he has impressed the class by being able to classify angles into acute, obtuse, right-angle and reflex angles and showed determination when learning to use a protractor. His effort in Numeracy always lead to success making it one of his strongest subjects!  

Jake is a sensible boy who approaches his work with determination. He listens beautifully and makes great contributions to the class discussions. During Literacy this week Jake shared his knowledge of prepositions with the class. His willingness to contribute helped everyone understand the learning better and showed excellent engagement with the lesson.  

Within the day-to-day routines of the class Jake consistently shows exemplary learning behaviours and acts as a wonderful role model to the other children in our school community. He listens carefully, follows instructions sensibly, and always tries his best in lessons and working one-to-one with an adult. Jake is polite to all the adults and other students at Sacred Heart and shows great respect by following our school rules every day. Jake’s positive attitude makes a real difference to his learning and to the calm, happy atmosphere in the classroom. This is something his teacher is very proud of- he is a real credit to the school.

*** Pizza Making Fun ***

To celebrate the end of their topic, ‘Traditions and Celebrations Around the World,’ our P2/3 pupils led an amazing Italian-themed pizza making workshop today!

They invited the P1/P2 boys and girls into the mix too as they came together for a very fun and hands-on session led by the very talented Katarina Kelly from Taste of New York, Castlewellan. Katya is also a proud parent in our school of Faith in P2.

Each child had the opportunity to make their very own pizza – rolling out the dough, adding tomato sauce and choosing from a variety of toppings. The excitement was building as the pizzas cooked, and once ready, the children were able to enjoy their creations outside in the lovely weather. 

A huge thank you to Katarina for giving her time and sharing this fantastic experience with our pupils. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Conor McAlerney, proprietor of the business, who very kindly donated the ingredients and even treated each child to a voucher for a free milkshake – what a lovely surprise!

A wonderful day full of learning, teamwork and delicious food! 

Taste Of New York Pizzeria

*** Trócaire Presentation ***

We welcomed Bernadette Beckett from Trócaire to Sacred Heart P.S. to receive a cheque for £1100 in respect of our Lenten fundraising campaign. Led by our RE co-ordinator, Mrs McCauley, the boys and girls undertook three fundraisers: Sponge the Teacher, Silver Coin Challenge and Bake Sale.

Thank you to everyone in our school community for their kind and generous support for this most worthy of charitable causes.
