*** Walking Train ***
Despite the inclement weather, the Sacred Heart P.S. ‘Walking Train’ gathered at De Courcey Way this morning and made its way down the back lanes to school. This was a great way to start our day and we even had some children on bikes too which all added to the energy!

Oisin P1, Leah P2, Elaina P3, Amelia P4, Eva P5, Mark Óg P6 and Noah P7 were all lauded by their teachers on Friday as each of them were awarded the Pupil of the Week accolade. Super effort from you all. Well done!

Liam P4
We are very excited to give the Principal’s Award to someone very special, Liam.
Liam comes into school every day with a big smile on his face and a cheerful “good morning!" What a lovely way to start the day.
In class, Liam is always ready to learn. He shows excellent listening skills, keeps his eyes on the teacher, and follows instructions brilliantly. He is a real classroom superstar. Liam loves to join in. He puts his hand up, shares his ideas, and works hard independently. He is also an excellent team player who works very well in groups and shows great teamwork skills.
We are very proud of the great progress Liam has made, especially in his reading and comprehension. He has worked really hard. Liam also enjoys Numeracy, particularly mental maths games and problem-solving tasks. He approaches challenges with a positive attitude.
Most importantly, Liam is a kind and caring friend. He plays fairly, includes others, and always remembers his manners. He is a wonderful role model for everyone in the class. Liam, we are very proud of you. Keep being your fantastic self.
*** Striving for Greatness Together Acknowledgement ***
Ryan - Darragh - Niamh - Darlene and Declan Óg P6/P7
The Striving for Greatness Together acknowledgment goes to Ryan, Darragh, Niamh, Darlene, and Declan Óg, who have all shown outstanding teamwork, dedication and leadership across their JEP teams this week in preparation for the ‘JEP Showcase Day' event.
In the Communications Team, Ryan and Darragh shined by worked together brilliantly to design a fantastic digital poster advertisement for ‘Sacred Heart Scarves.’ While Darragh and Darlene in the Marketing Team beautifully represented the school by talking to over 10 local businesses about their class project on a promotional walk through Dundrum distributing the printed advertisements. In the Production Team, Declan Óg worked superbly, showing lots of determination to help his team pack over 100 scarves while Niamh did a fabulous job in the Marketing Team by speaking to all the other classes in promoting ‘Sacred Heart Scarves’.
Preparing for an enterprise event takes responsibility, organisation and confidence, and they should all feel extremely proud of what they have achieved this week. You are wonderful role models for the rest of the school and have shown exactly what can happen when students collaborate and work hard towards a shared goal.
*** JEP Showcase Day Preparations ***
The Communications and Marketing teams from Miss McConvile’s class took to the village last week to promote this Wednesday’s highly anticipated JEP Showcase Day. Pupils visited local businesses to distribute promotional materials and spread the word about the exciting event.
A highlight of the showcase will be the sale of the much-loved Sacred Heart Scarves, with the JEP team working tirelessly to ensure the project’s success. Their enthusiasm and dedication are clear as they prepare to present their hard work to the wider community.

*** Danske Bank Financial Literacy Workshops ***
We were delighted to welcome Carole Harty and Shauna McMullan from Danske Bank to our school on Friday, where they delivered a series of engaging financial literacy workshops.
Pupils from P2/P3, P4/P5 and P6/P7 each took part in sessions tailored to their age group. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops, which provided highly practical and educational insights into managing money and making informed financial decisions.

*** Green Flag Award Success! ***
We are delighted to share the fantastic news that Sacred Heart P.S. have officially been awarded our Green Flag renewal!
This wonderful achievement is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our entire school community. A special congratulations goes to Miss Crozier (Eco Co-ordinator), our hardworking Eco Council, and everyone who has actively supported and engaged in our environmental initiatives.

It is fantastic to see the pupils’ passion for their coastal location, with regular learning taking place on the beach. Well done also to Miss Byrne and Miss Crozier on achieving their Level 3 Forest School qualification and using it so effectively.

Environmental awareness is clearly embedded across all year groups, from P1 through to P7, demonstrating a whole-school approach.

* Cumann na mBunscol 9-a-side Qualifiers *
Well done to our two teams (boys and girls) who took part in today’s Cumann na mBunscol 9-a-side Qualifiers at Annaclone GAC. They both joined with St Colman’s P.S. Annaclone, Bunscol Bheanna Boirche, Castlewellan and St Mary’s P.S. Barr for a great morning of football.
The boys defeated Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche, Castlewellan, and St Mary’s P.S. Barr whilst losing out to St Colman’s P.S. Annaclone. This ensured second place in the group and qualification for the 9-a-side semi finals day.
The girls had a wonderful win over Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche, Castlewellan, whilst suffering reversals to St Mary’s P.S. Barr and St Colman’s P.S. Annaclone.
A great effort from all players involved!
Dundrum GAC
*** FunFit East Down GAA Shield Winners 2026 ***
Sacred Heart P.S. attended the FunFit East Down GAA knockout competition today at St John’s GAC. After a series of superb performances they emerged deserving Shield winners to cap off a wonderful outing from the boys.
First up the team navigated their way past a quarter final tussle with St Caolan’s P.S. Darragh Cross. Following on from this the side were clinical in a 3-04 to 0-01 semi final success over Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche, Castlewellan.
The final was set up to be a cracker with St Mary’s P.S. Newcastle being the opposition. Sacred Heart P.S. were 0-04 to no score up at halftime. The Newcastle lads came roaring into the contest with 1-01 to level it but the Dundrum representation weren’t to be denied as they outscored their opponents late on, 1-01 to 0-01, to win the contest 1-05 to 1-02.
A huge congratulations goes to the team on this tremendous success. They now advance to the FunFit Down GAA Shield Final against Ballyholland P.S. (South Down winners) on Friday 22nd May (time and venue TBC).
Once again we thank Dundrum GAC Coaching Officer Ruairi McGuigan for his commitment to the development pf this group of players. Gratitude too is extended to parent Lisa Cunningham for assisting with transport to and from the venue.

Niall, Faith, Eimear and Beth - P1/P2
Last week’s recipients of the Striving for Greatness Together award were the brilliant Niall, Faith, Eimear and Beth from Miss Byrne's P1/P2 class. They have shown great enthusiasm for the Accelerated Reader programme and have been wonderful at encouraging and celebrating each other’s successes. During their ASPIRE trip, they played so well with the boys and girls from Knockevin and were a real credit to the school. They continue to work hard across all areas of school life.

James P5
This pupil has been shining brightly in class and truly deserves the Principal’s Award. Over recent months, their reading has improved so much, with wonderful expression and enthusiasm that makes listening a joy. They love Numeracy too, especially mental maths and fun number games, particularly when learning takes place outdoors!
They are always curious about the world around them and enjoy working in groups during investigations and experiments. They are incredibly helpful, a fantastic team player, and someone others can always rely on. This pupil also has a real passion for ICT and shows amazing creativity using Just2Easy and building brilliant Minecraft worlds linked to class topics.
Most of all, what really makes this pupil stand out is their kindness and manners. They always say “please” and “thank you” without being reminded, hold doors open for adults, and show great care by sharing and looking out for classmates both in and out of the classroom.
A very well done to our deserving Principal’s Award winner!
