*** FunFit Down GAA Shield Final ***

Sacred Heart P.S. faced Ballyholland P.S. in the FunFit Down GAA Shield Final on Friday evening at a resplendent Páirc Naomh Eoin. In a highly anticipated clash between the East and South Down champions, Ballyholland P.S. ultimately emerged as worthy winners at the final whistle.

It was a fantastic occasion for our boys, beginning with a special pre-match parade, followed by a rousing rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann, and concluding with a post-match presentation. The atmosphere was superb, with a large turnout from the school community providing tremendous support throughout.

Despite the result, it was a valuable and memorable learning experience for the team. The players can take great pride in their efforts as they now look ahead to the Cumann na mBunscol 9-a-side semi-finals and the Jarlath Carey Memorial Tournament.

The P7 boys and girls who recently celebrated Confirmation were delighted to receive special certificates from the parish in respect  of reaching their latest sacramental milestone.

*** Walking Train ***

Despite the inclement weather, the Sacred Heart P.S. ‘Walking Train’ gathered at De Courcey Way this morning and made its way down the back lanes to school. This was a great way to start our day and we even had some children on bikes too which all added to the energy!

*** Principal’s Award ***

Liam P4

We are very excited to give the Principal’s Award to someone very special, Liam. 

Liam comes into school every day with a big smile on his face and a cheerful “good morning!" What a lovely way to start the day. 

In class, Liam is always ready to learn. He shows excellent listening skills, keeps his eyes on the teacher, and follows instructions brilliantly. He is a real classroom superstar. Liam loves to join in. He puts his hand up, shares his ideas, and works hard independently. He is also an excellent team player who works very well in groups and shows great teamwork skills. 

We are very proud of the great progress Liam has made, especially in his reading and comprehension. He has worked really hard. Liam also enjoys Numeracy, particularly mental maths games and problem-solving tasks. He approaches challenges with a positive attitude. 

Most importantly, Liam is a kind and caring friend. He plays fairly, includes others, and always remembers his manners. He is a wonderful role model for everyone in the class. Liam, we are very proud of you. Keep being your fantastic self.

*** JEP Showcase Day Preparations ***

The Communications and Marketing teams from Miss McConvile’s class took to the village last week to promote this Wednesday’s highly anticipated JEP Showcase Day. Pupils visited local businesses to distribute promotional materials and spread the word about the exciting event.

A highlight of the showcase will be the sale of the much-loved Sacred Heart Scarves, with the JEP team working tirelessly to ensure the project’s success. Their enthusiasm and dedication are clear as they prepare to present their hard work to the wider community.

*** Green Flag Award Success! ***

We are delighted to share the fantastic news that Sacred Heart P.S. have officially been awarded our Green Flag renewal!

This wonderful achievement is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our entire school community. A special congratulations goes to Miss Crozier (Eco Co-ordinator), our hardworking Eco Council, and everyone who has actively supported and engaged in our environmental initiatives.

It is fantastic to see the pupils’ passion for their coastal location, with regular learning taking place on the beach. Well done also to Miss Byrne and Miss Crozier on achieving their Level 3 Forest School qualification and using it so effectively.

Environmental awareness is clearly embedded across all year groups, from P1 through to P7, demonstrating a whole-school approach.
