      Published 22/10/26

      *** P4/P5 ASPIRE ***

Our P4/P5 class had a fantastic first ASPIRE session with the Hedgehog Class from Knockevin today. The children enjoyed a shared break before taking part in a fun "getting to know you" activity, helping them make new friends and learn more about each other.

The pupils then explored woodland animals and created hedgehogs, foxes and badgers using modelling clay, leaves and twigs. Afterwards, the Hedgehog Class taught P4/5 how to sign "hedgehog" and "thank you" using Makaton. The session continued outdoors with relay games and teamwork challenges before finishing with some fun in the play park.

It was a wonderful day filled with friendship, creativity, inclusion and lots of smiles. We are already looking forward to our next ASPIRE session!

      *** Pumpkin Investigators in P1/P2 ***

Our P1/P2 pupils enjoyed a fantastic pumpkin investigation this week. They carefully explored the inside of a pumpkin, identifying its different parts and discussing their purpose. The children then separated the seeds from the fibrous strands and made predictions about how many seeds they thought the pumpkin might contain.

Using ten frames, they worked together to count the seeds in groups of ten, reaching a remarkable total of 280 seeds. To complete their learning, the class explored how pumpkin seeds can be planted and grown into new plants, helping them understand the life cycle of a pumpkin and how nature begins all over again.

A wonderful practical learning experience full of curiosity, counting and discovery!

The children engaged in thoughtful discussions about the pressures they can sometimes face, both in and out of school, and explored practical strategies to help them manage these challenges positively.

Through a range of activities and conversations, pupils developed a greater understanding of how to build confidence, resilience and a healthy mindset.
