A huge congratulations to the children who have earned our first Accelerated Reader certifications of the new school year. These awards reflect the fantastic reading habits, dedication and enthusiasm that pupils have shown since returning to school in September.

Achieving an Accelerated Reader certificate is a wonderful accomplishment and demonstrates a commitment to reading regularly, developing comprehension skills and challenging themselves with books at an appropriate level.

We are delighted to see so many pupils already reaching important reading milestones so early in the year. We hope this is just the beginning of another successful year of reading across the school.

Well done to all of our certificate winners. Keep turning those pages and enjoying new adventures through books!

  • Eco Council Halloween Door Competition

*** Eco Council Halloween Classroom Door Decoration Competition ***

The Eco Council challenged each class to create a spooky Halloween classroom door using only recycled, reused and natural materials. There was just one rule: nothing new could be purchased!

Classes got to work using a fantastic range of materials, including spare classroom paper and card, cereal boxes, magazines, old clothing, lunch packaging, bottle caps, straws, cardboard, bin bags, tinfoil and even natural items such as leaves, sticks, twigs, feathers and acorns. The creativity, teamwork and imagination on display were truly outstanding, and pupils had great fun bringing their spooky designs to life while learning about the importance of reusing and recycling.

After some very difficult judging, the Eco Council selected the following award winners: Most Creative: P1/2, Most Colourful: P3, Most Effort: P4/5, Best Use of Recycled Materials: P5/6 and Spookiest: P7.

Congratulations to all of our winners and a huge well done to every class that took part. The standard was incredibly high, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm shown for this fun and environmentally friendly challenge.

    *** Maths Week Ireland 2026 ***

What a fantastic Maths Week we enjoyed at Sacred Heart P.S. Dundrum!

Our pupils took part in a wide range of engaging and practical numeracy activities throughout the week.

P1/P2 students enjoyed a numeracy scavenger hunt, while P3 took their maths learning outdoors through a Forest School classification lesson.

P4/P5 explored maths through games including 24, Pig and Place Value Battles. They also became Dahlia Detectives, investigating flowers from Mr Doyle's garden by estimating and counting petals, measuring and comparing sizes, creating human graphs and designing posters about their favourite numbers.

P5/P6 worked together on a giant outdoor Jumping Maze challenge, developing their problem-solving, teamwork and perseverance skills as they searched for the route to the centre.

P7 pupils took part in interactive maths games, a dice challenge requiring them to reach a target of 100, problem-solving puzzles, favourite number posters and a numeracy hunt. They also applied their understanding of negative numbers by ordering temperatures on a number line.

From scavenger hunts and outdoor investigations to puzzles, games and challenges, our pupils discovered that maths really is everywhere!
